Summer of (Kodachrome) 64

I have 4 rolls that I am taking to Newfoundland later this summer. They will probably be my last.

I may order a few more rolls for that trip but after that I'm probably done.

I wish I could afford to go to someplace exotic, but I will do what I can. Kodachome is going to be shot for about 99% of my color photography, and I'm going to do my best to capture the beauty of my home state, Wisconsin.

I suspect that summer will be next summer when everyone that is sitting on quantities of it now (and maybe trying to get some high prices on ebay) realize they can't shoot it by the deadline and unload it. Like ticket scalpers 3 songs into a concert....

I got a few rolls out already, but in this weather you won't convince me to get out and shoot them this weekend.

However, it is my intention to use them, and use them soon. Like Mark, I can try to show that my town (DeKalb, IL) can be an interesting place after all...

Where are you in WI, Mark? Madison, perhaps? I'd like to take a stroll down State Street...

This is certainly a wonderful thought. I've shot 900-1000 frames of 35mm Kodachrome (maybe more) but all way back. I wish you guys luck, I want to be with you but I'm not going anywhere interesting until the winter. Maybe I'll take a roll to Argentina in January 2010.

I have two rolls of 36 exp and 17 rolls of 24 exp in the freezer; about one roll left between what is loaded in my IIIf and my M. I will probably shoot most of it this summer.

I will probably order another 15 rolls or so for next year.

I would love to, if only I can find somewhere to source some affordably.
Henry's doesn't even list it any more, the American stores seem to be perpetually out of stock, and ebay prices are just nuts.

I envy those of you with freezers full of the stuff.

Milwaukee. I plan to shoot the Great Circus Parade in a few weeks:

It's back after being gone for 6 years. The trouble is, how to get close to get good shots. From what I remember years before (never photographed it), the streets are chaotic for hours leading up to it. Oh well, that gives me more to shoot...the spectators! I'm going to talk with a couple friends who are professional photographers (one has been a photojournalist at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for over 30 years) and see if I can get some tips.

My wife and I were in Baraboo a couple weeks ago to visit the Circus World Museum, where I fired off a few roles of Kodachrome. I also shot some on State Street and at the Farmers Market in Madison the day before, and hope to get back there at least one more time this summer.

So that's what I'm trying to work on, finding the things in Wisconsin that are unique to the state, and have the color that Kodachrome in intended for. Tomorrow, the annual Strawberry Festival in Cedarburg, WI.

For me it will probably have to be next summer. This summer is shot for any cohesive project. I told my wife that I want to go back to Superior and shoot all my remaining Kodachrome .. and I may buy some more once I do an inventory ... thankfully my current stock includes two rolls of K25.

We will have to plan on two weeks due to the distance involved ... the only other destination I would consider would be Cape Breton Island. Of course, I will keep an eye on Dwayne's chemistry status; if that gets critical, an "emergency plan" may be necessary.

By the time of my project, I want to have an M body and two or three lenses, plus I will use an OM with one or (at the most) two Zuikos.

I'm going on holiday to Pensacola and 4 rolls of Kodachrome are going with me. I would like to purchase more but it appears Freestyle has removed it from their list. Earlier it had "Out of Stock" status with a July 20 re-stock date.

I have one roll I picked up a few months ago (along with a few bricks of BW400NC and a few Pro Packs of Portra 400NC), and I'd like to pick up at least another 5-7 rolls. (Oddly enough, this reminds me that I have several rolls of Konica Impresa 50 in cold storage that I might want to use roughly at the same time...)

Exotic locale? I'm in New York. I'll find something.

Looking at the current supply situation, I feel lucky to have 2 dozen rolls in the fridge.

Anyone lucky enough to crack a decent order in the coming weeks - if you want to sell 1 or 2 dozen send me a PM.

Chris, I was hopeful of that.

But my gut feeling is that current orders will outstrip what's left. Kodak stated supply through to 'fall' given 'current demand' but the demand has gone through the roof.

This thread over at kodachromeproject somewhat confirms my thoughts: http://www.kodachromeproject.com/forum/showthread.php?t=374

In any event I feel very lucky to have my small stash, I will think of somewhere nice to go in my summer holidays, and shoot it there.

Cheers...
Fergus.

I sent seven rolls (taken on a recent California fly-drive) off to Lausanne on 16 June and received five boxes today - 14 days later. I imagine the other two will arrive tomorrow. I'm impressed with this level of service!

But the film is well travelled - manufacture in US, sold in UK, taken back to US to be used, returned home, sent to Lausanne, sent to Kansas, back to Lausanne, back to UK. Add in all the chemicals used in manufacture and process and it's not really a green film....
