Hello,

I just bought a type-3 Summicron 35mm/2 lens (so far my costliest lens). Can you tell me if the square hood for the 4th-version 35'cron will work with this lens? Can I use it on top of a 39mm screw-on filter?

I searched the forum, but there I only found discussion on the original hood for the 3rd version. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on a great lens, I love mine.

If I remember correctly there is a notch in the v4 hood that you have to
remove to make it fit.

But the original round hood (which I use) is pretty good and also fits the 50 Summicron,
and even the Canon 50/1.5 🙂

Roland.

Thanks a lot, guys. Mine is 2661xxx. I really wanted a 4th version, but the prices are crazy, and this will be my main lens (read: use, and possibly abuse), so I settled for the much cheaper 3rd version.

I really like the square hood, and was hoping to use it. But if it requires some kind of modification, then I'll probably go for the original hood for this version. Anyone using this lens/square-hood combo? Any details on what modifications are required (and how hard it will be to modify it)?

My lens is on its way, so please feel free to post some shots taken with this lens.

Thanks again,
Shakil

It's not only mechanically better. It has one element less, and
is (in my opinion) more flare resistant. Bokeh looks the same.

Here is an example shot of mine:

I've tried putting 12524 square hood (for verison 4) on the version 3. The hood could be mounted on, but not so firmly because of the notch. I still prefer the original 12504 to the pure plastic 12524.

From the product shots of the hoods, it seems that the original hood is a bit larger than the square one. Thats why I wanted to get the square hood.

Thanks for the pic. Please keep them coming (I need some inspiration 😉 ).

Holy *$%@! 12504 costs 1/6th of the lens!!! Ouch! I better search the archives for an alternative hood. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
