Hi all,
I have been looking into lenses and figured the 35mm summicron v4 pre asph would be ideal for my M8, as its not as expensive as the aspherical and has a real nice look.
What I am wondering however is the price range. I see a lot of them going on ebay for US$2000. This price seems a bit expensive.
Does anyone here own one and would be able to give me a rough price for a used v4 lens?
i have tried a few online stores such as Meister Camera, Red Dot Camera, LeicaShop, B&H, Adorama, Mifsuds, ebay, ffordes. etc.
Thanks in advance. Desperate for a lens so i can start shooting!

Search completed auctions on ebay... that's generally what the market will bear. I like igor's and keh but that lens is very popular, you might just have to bite the bullet and pay the going price. The best deal would probably be found on RFF, getDPI and FM classifieds. Look here for valuations:

FWIW, paid 1,300 USD for mine 18 months ago (mint but no box, no case, etc). Prices have gone up a lot lately due to increase demand.
I wouldn't be surprised if about 2,000 USD is the current going price for a lens in good condition.
Alternatively, you may want to look at the Summarit - higher contrast and half a stop slower, though.

Tried one set today at local store.. It does not focus to infinity.. Think Canada made set...
There are certain series that might not work with m8... Instead got a cron v4 today..
Wat a waste ....

This is one of those internet hype lenses (i.e. "Bokeh King"). That coupled with the fact that Leica isn't producing enough lenses to meet current demand means you will be paying $2000 for this lens. Perhaps consider the version 3 or wait around for someone to sell one at last years prices (which happens sometimes).

I feel rich!!!!!
I feel rich!!!!!
I see this lens at 2K plus. I bought mine used in 1993 for $750.00! Never sold it. In fact, I bought quite a few lenses at what was then reasonable in price. 3 years ago, I bought a late generation mint 50mm Summicron on Ebay for $650. These things appreciated like gold man!!!

There are deals out there. I got one with two microscopic "cleaning" marks for a pretty good deal considering the current state of lens prices. If you are dead set on a V4, perhaps get a CV lens to hold you over and when you come upon one that looks like a deal pounce on it as fast as you can!
A V2 or V3 are great options as well. They are all great! I doubt that most people could pick out which version made which photo if you lined up a bunch of prints (I definitely couldn't).

Hi there, I recently got a used V4 (late german version) for CHF 650.00 - roughly around USD 750.00 - it was complete with shade and caps and with just perfect glass. So USD 2000 is just too much! Observe the market, and yoiu will find one at a decent price
Good luck

Hmmm, this seems very strange to me. B&H always charges too much...and knows what they have when it comes to Leica prices. How did you get a V4 from B&H for just over $1000... what was the catch?

Corroding tank M9 35 ASPH
I got my M9 about 18 months ago and since all my lenses were in storage and silver, bought more. They were reasonable and even my 35 ASPH wasn't bad. I bought just before I saw the prices climbing and am glad I jumped when I did. Now the 35 ASPH has gone up about 600 from when I bought it and all the other lenses have jumped as well. I don't think there will be a downward trend. I would enjoy using a 35 IV, but am happy, very happy with the ASPH and will stick with what I now have.

WTF!? I am happy for you but also jealous and skeptical at the same time, so
i will ask a dumb question: are you sure its a v4? or maybe you spoke to the rare greenhorn at B&H in the used deptmt who doesnt know his *** from a hole in the ground?
In any case, glad you found one! Now we need you to post some pics on this thread!

Yep. Have had it for about 3 months now, so nothing to worry about. Canadian made.
It didn't come with box, case, lens cap or hood cap.
Only the lens, with hood and base cap.
Its been great so far.

Okay, question for you all. Is there something wrong with my lens/body or settings i am using for me to take a picture like this?
There seems to be some reflection of the light for no reason, and it appears on quite a few photos.
Has someone seen this before? Unsure what to do...
