Summicron 35mm pre-asph

first guess:
You were shooting in a very reflective hall (glass, marble everywhere) and the sign may have bounced.
Of course, it seems very unlikely, so if you have that kind of reflection in different situations, it's probably the camera...

Not at present I don't, but I noticed in this shot there were all these light specs on the bottom right of the image (over the pavement).

I have been told it may be the UV/IR filter I have on the lens, but I really don't want to shoot without something protecting the lens.

Those specks seem to be the traffic lights. Maybe you should try taking some test shots without a filter.

If you're using a hood you have plenty of protection in the event of a fall already.

Im also guessing it's the filter. I've had similar stuff happen in low light with different cameras (film and digital). At this point, I take off the filter at night or if there are artificial points of light in the frame.

It's not a bad lens and completely normal. Those "reflections" are light bouncing around on the inside of the lens.

Mr. Jubb Jubb, those mirror reflections will go away when you remove the flat filter.

As Mike said. I observe the same reflections with my Noctilux and "protective" filter ... For best performance, remove the filter and always use a hood. :)
