Please list your likes and dislikes of the Summicron 35mm V3.
I found a recent thread comparing it to the Hex UC lens.
I would like to have some just plain straight up lists here with a photo or 10 if you have them.

Please be silent those thread bashers who say "have we not done this before?".
Maybe we have but, new people come into lenses and the topic has room to expand.
Hoping for some good info so I may finish a trade with a member here.
Thanks for the replies.

When I had it, I didn't dislike anything, really, a pretty perfect lens, except the comparative used price compared to CV 35/2.5 and 1.4. The CV 35/2.5 is at least as good optically but slower, the 35/1.4 has some distortion (comparable to the UC) but is faster.

Maybe a little softer in the corners wide open, compared to the 35/2 ASPH, but I never needed anything more than v3 gave.

If you don't mind the used price, go for it ...

• Overall picture quality/characteristics
• Not too high contrast
• 0.7m minimum focus
• Excellent build quality and handling
• Doesn't scream "expensive lens!" 😛
• Compact size (though see below)
• One of the sexiest hood design
• Price
• E39 filter thread

Dislikes: (not really problems for me)
• Flare/ghost fairly easily w/o hood against diagonal light (though sometimes moody and nice)
• Not as compact as v4
• 12504 hood expensive (12585H works fine for me)

Roland, I should have phrased "shorter" rather than "smaller." I once saw Randy's v4 and felt v4 was shorter, less sticking out from body. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. 😛

hey roland, is that the ice hotel that they build somewhere in scandanavia each year (can't remember where)? i've wanted to go there ever since i read about it many years ago, but have never known anyone that has gone to ask about it.

even if not...great shot (and do please explain)!

Hi Mike,

I have three 35s left, Nikkor 35/1.8, Nokton 35/1.4 and Color Skopar PII. All very different, IMO. The Color Skopar "feels" like v3, except is even smaller.

My Leica lenses are 50mm or longer 🙂

Roland.
