Summicron 40mm on M4-P?

I've been looking for a wider alternative to my 50 Summicron and have heard that with the M6, the 40mm Summicron C seems to fit the 35mm framelines quite well, making it a good quality, slightly wider and considerably cheaper alternative to, lets say the 35mm Summicron.

Now I have an M4-P though, and seeing that its "basically an M6 without a lighmeter", my framelines should work just fine too, am I right? Has anyone had any experience with this combination? And would you say the 40mm is more like a 35 or a 50.

I had the 40 Rokkor and it worked well with the framelines in an M6TTL which, I believe, are the same as in your M4-P. I only found it necessary to cheat towards the 50 framelines around the 6ft. mark and closer, if memory serves.

A 40 definitely feels more like a 35 than a 50. 🙂

I prefer to use the 50mm framelines with my 40mm lens on my M4-P. You get a little extra in the frame but you can just "enlarge out" what you want.

you could also expose frames with the lens centred on the same object each time, using 35mm, 40mm and 50mm lenses and then actually see the different coverage and decide which are the best framelines for you to use. You would need access to all three focal lengths, of course. It might also be a good thing to try this at infinity and also on something around 25 feet away.
