After recently purchasing a new 35/2 lens (8-bit coded), I received the current promotion of two upgrades of non-coded M-lenses. I sent my 50/2 Summicron to Allendale, NJ for the retrofit. The lens came back several weeks later in tact, and I mounted it on my M6TTl. Not only did I not hear that familiar lens-lock sound, but after remounting the lens a second time, I noticed that the viewfinder was displaying 35mm framelines instead. When I turned the lens lightly counter-clockwise , the lens locked into place with the correct 50mm framelines in view. I tried this experiment several times with the same results. I'm thinking, this is NOT normal! My 35 and 75 seated properly every time! After explaining the situation to Leica NJ, they picked up my lens the next day, UPS, for repair. Today, Leica called to request that I send my body as they found no problem mounting my lens on their M bodies. 😡
Has anyone in the forum experienced a similar situation as mine? I am about to take an extended trip in which I will be without one of my lenses and if Allendale has their way, without a body. I was told that a supervisor would be returning my call tomorrow and addressing my displeasure of being asked to send my body for comparison, as I explain once again that the lens mounted just fine before the retro-fit. After several minutes of phone frustration, I half jokingly told the contact I was talking to that they could have the body, but that I would be expected to be "comped" a retrofitted flare-patch or an MP style film advance. The more I think about it, the more inclined I am to believe that the request may not be that far out-of-line.😉
Your advice and observations would be appreciated. Sorry for venting!
Regards,
Edward
