Not knowing much of anything about lens construction I have an ignorant question to ask. Back in october or november I bought a 50 summicron (4th version, tabbed) from one of our members on the classifieds here. When I received the lens everything looked fine, but when I went to unscrew the attached filter instead of the filter the lens itself start to 'screw apart' somewhere towards the front end of the lens. I quickly rescrewed it very tightly and then was able to unscrew the filter but I now have this nagging feeling that the lens might be damaged. Does this mean that the lens has been decollimated? Should I have someone look at it? Most of my images look good to my eyes, but of course don't have any shots from before I partly unscrewed it, so no way of making any comparison. If anyone can put my mind to rest I'd be much obliged.

thanks,
sean

Had this happen today. Just screwed it back, and used a rubber sheet to hold the lens in place and take off the filter. This is common.

The tabbed Summicron does NOT unscrew for Visoflex. That only applied to the two prior versions: DR/rigid and the black Wetzlar (69'-78'). The tabbed version was never designed to do that and should be carefully screwed back together.

The 4th version will unscrew but it's not meant to be used for anything like a visoflex or the close-focus adapter. I have a late German model that unscrews. Just unscrew the filter, screw the lens heqad back on and take care.
