I bought a 50mm Summicron from B&H a few months ago. I have 2 questions.

1.) The aperture ring is kind of loose. It clicks at each f-stop, but not very securely. Can a loose aperture ring be tightened or are the 50mm lenses just loose? When I ordered the 50, I was expecting something more robust.

2.) Is it possible to get a focussing tab added onto the 50mm 'cron like the one on the 35?

Thank you.

I own the 50mm/2 'cron latest version and its aperture ring doesn't feel loose at all, yet positive clicking through aperture settings. Overall feels just enough secure while allowing aperture clicking without excessive force to be applied.

Loose is subjective ... in general, the 35 lux-asph is know for having a looser aperture ring, but usually not the 50/cron.

If you are uncomfortable with it, return it, BH has a great return policy.

If you wish to keep it, you can probably send it to DAG (Don Goldberg), who can tighten it for you. He may even have an answer for whether a tab can be added. The simpler solution would be to get the 50/cron penultimate (tabbed version with the same optical formula as the latest). It is a cracking lens, and slightly slimmer in profile as well.

cheers

Unless the thing is very worn the stop click can be adjusted for tightness, usually a small ball spring loaded by a blade or coil spring, all nicely greased.

Depending on the type of mount there may be room for a focusing tap.

I can give you more details by private email.
