Summicron 90/2 for $1000+ ???

I just checked on ebay asking prices for the silver Summicron M 90/2. Every single one offered costs over $1000. These are not even the aspherical types. Is this for real?

What is a "RFF Price" for a mint silver 90/2?

The lens is perfect for portraits.

I also find the ebay asking prices too high.
At $600-$750 a mint Cron is correctly priced.
There used to sell cheaper ones out there though for about $450.

The pre-asph silver Summicron is a heavy beast and while beautifully made my girly-man biceps couldn't handle it. I find the early Summicron black or chrome tonally more pleasing and the Elmarit (any version) sharper. The E55 pre-asph Summicron was neither so I didn't find much reason to have one.

If it has E48 filter size and the head comes off for Viso then it is earlier than the pre-asph. It is really a beautiful lens. The Viso adapter is really hard to find but worth search for. You can then use it on Nikon DSLR, et al.

I got mine for $600 from Adorama. Great cosmetic and mechanical condition. A spec of dust on the inside of the rear element. You'd never even know it was there.

I'll send it to DAG at some point to get the dust speck taken care of. But I'm hardly concerned.

Hey Raid, I will be interested to know how you feel if/once you sell your 90mm summicron (e48) and purchase a pre-asp summicron...I have been thinking of doing the same....cheers, michael

It's high price must be a rarity issue assuming it's the pre-asph. E55 version. These were special editions to commemorate certain bodies. Not very practical since the silver chrome versions had a lot more brass adding to weight.

With the impending M9 (FF?) release, I wonder if the demand for tele lenses will increase slightly? A true 75mm or 90mm...

Low prices suggest the 90 is not the most popular lens for most photog. People who can afford a new M9 will be not be buying old 90s in masse.

Stick to the 90 for a month or two, Raid. Maybe the FF M9 comes a la carte, with .85 finder ? 🙂

Do you mean the Visoflex? I think, I have a mint Visoflex II still in the box with the enlarged viewfinder.
