So, I bought a mint condition Leica Summicron-M 90mm f2 lens (last version) for my ZI thinking I would be all set for telephoto. Well, I can't get the Leica lens to mount properly on the ZI. The little lens locking 'nub' on the camera will not pop into the indention on the lens to hold it in place. I can remove the lens without having to press the lens release button on the camera. NOT GOOD!!! I assumed these cameras were fully compatible with Leica "M" mount lenses. WTF???

I had a similar problem, not with the ZI but a type 2 90mm summicron and a bessa-t. The rationale I heard on the web when I did some digging was that some of the mounts on early bessas were not machined to tight tolerances.

Don't know if that makes sense. And it would be depressing if that turned out to be true of some ZI's as well.

Knock on wood, no problems like that with mine. Yet.

More likely it could be some slight damage to either Summicron mount or ZI lock. Should be visible.

Roland.

I have the same lens and camera with no problems locking down.
Will the lens lock down on other M bodys?
Will the ZI lock down other M mount lenses?
It is a fantastic lens to use with the ZI, keep trying to find out the culprit, Lens or Body...

I returned the lens to the vendor while I still had the chance. I could not get it to mount properly. My other lenses are current Zeiss ZM models, and they all mount perfectly. The Leica lens was described as 'mint condition' by a reputable dealer, so I bought it. I could not really see anything unusual about the lens's mounting ring, which is very puzzling. I assume my ZI is okay because it works fine with other lenses. I sent then lens back and am back in the hunt for another one. Perhaps the Tele-Tessar 85/4 will be it, as I like my other Zeiss lenses just fine. I don't think that f/4 will be an issue, but I'd prefer faster just to be safe in case I need the speed. Or maybe a new Leica 90/2.5 Summarit-M. Hmmm... I'll keep looking around.
