Is there any qualitative differences in the image/build quality of Canadian Summicrons of these focal lengths with their German counterparts from the 4th-5th generations? Thanks!😕
No. Newer lenses tend to have better coatings, but that has nothing to do with the point of assembly. The Midland M-Summicron etc. lenses are excellent.
LOL. There is no difference and some of the most sought-after Leica glass is made only in Canada - the Noctilux for example. It is the collectors who like the "Made in Germany" stamp, but if you're going to use it don't worry about where it came from. A lot of the modern Leica stuff is made in Portugal and no-one complains about that.
Thanks for the information!! Keep it coming...you guys are great! I am looking at the 50mm Summicron w/focusing tab as it seems to be more affordable than the current built-in hood model....however, there does seem to be a premium being asked by sellers who have the German-made tabbed model....🙄
I would not pay a premium for a German made item but then I'm a shooter, not a collector.
I've noticed more than a few sellers who, being less than knowledgeable about what they have, see "Leica" and assume the item is made in Germany. I can't count the number of Minilux, Minizoom and Z2X compacts that have been advertised on ebay as being "Made in Germany" even though none of them ever were. Heck, they weren't even made by Leica!
