Just caught the new Pop Photo in the mail, what do I see? A new m43 Leica lens for Lumix cameras.

Really slick looking, complete with aperture ring and RF inspired hood.
Although I don't own a MFT camera anymore, Ide love to see some samples!

At a suggested retail price of only 600$ I can see this being a hot lens, and cheap way to get a Summilux ;)

Nice looking lens: all metal, compact, with a handsome hood (included) and smooth operation reported. I think the lens is running into some buyer resistance, however, owing to reports that it as not as sharp as some had hoped and is a bit soft in the corners wide open. The aperture ring apparently does not work on Olympus bodies. Bottom line: $600 is kind of steep for a m43 lens.

DXO scores the cheaper and nicer (for my needs) Oly 17/1.8 above it. I like "traditional FL's".

So you think 34mm is traditional? ;)

I have to admit, I've thought about this lens on an Olympus E-M1...seems like a nice combo (though the aperture ring doesn't work with Olympus cameras supposedly).

Hahaha! Yeah, 34mm is a lot closer to 35mm than 30mm is to 28mm! :)

Actually, when I was briefly looking at the GM1 I thought the 15 was going to be a pancake... but it's not.

Yes, I do prefer the 17mm FL and the scale focusing on the Oly 17/1.8 which is still way nice fit and finish and has scale focusing which would be much more useful than a manual aperture ring... I mean, I shoot Aperture priority or manual all the time and my aperture is already on my first level thumb wheel which is much more ergonomic than a lens dial IMO... I must be missing something.

Nothing against the 15, I'm sure it's a nice lens no matter what the review sites and people on DPReview are saying.

Speaking traditional FL's... fingers crossed that my new Oly 25/1.8 comes today! :)

amalric, I like the HCB quote at the end! :)

Yes, that is the reason why like you I kept using the 17/2.8.
I'll have soon a new post about 2 little known episodes in HCB's life, with interviews.

Also. I'd love to publish one of your urbex stories, if you send me one.

I had the opportunity to shoot a couple of photos with the 15/1.7 today on my GX7. Both at ISO 400 in manual mode with manual focus. This is not very scientific, just a couple of handheld shots in a camera store. RAW files PP in LR5 and saved as TIFFs. No other PP done.

f/1.7 - a bit of purple fringing around the fluorescent tubes at the top of the frame, lower left is slightly soft.

f/5.6 - purple fringing is pretty much gone, corner sharpness improved.

I will seriously consider purchasing this lens. It handles well, the focus is smooth and the aperture ring is nice. The build also seems good.

Looking at the Oly 17/1.8 test shots I made the Panasonic 15/1.7 has a bit more contrast. I also like the FOV of the 15. I do like the Oly 17/1.8 a lot. I just have to think a bit more about the two.
