Guys,

I have my beloved 35/1.4 pre-asph, which sits with my Leica M6. :angel:I would like to try it on my Leica M9. I have also read on the web that this lens may not fit M9 due the specifics of the rare element of the lens. Can I damage M9, if I will try Summilux 35/1.4 pre-ash on M9? :eek:Alternatively how can I know that I need to fix the problem with this lens in order to use it on my M9? :bang:Serial number can help? Mine is canadian version.

many thanks for your advises.

Best regards,
Alex

Alex, you can use your lens on the M9.

it will not damage it... the only issue is that you will have to manually code it in the Menu.

enjoy! it is a gorgeous lens :D

eta: after reading other's comments, i went to research -- oops! it never occurred to me that mine wouldn't work (it did, thank god!) when i first started using it on digital

The only problem is that some Summilux not focus to infinity. You must ensure that it is not necessary to apply pressure in focus at infinity, and if necessary, it is advisable not to focus to infinity, and both the M9 Summilux are safe.
Is therefore necessary to lower eyelid: it is better to entrust the Summilux to a good repair because the operation is very simple, and Leica wants a lot of money.

It depends upon which version you have and different build lots of that version. There is a small light baffle at the rear of the lens that can impact the area in the M9 where the light meter sits. Mount your lens with it at the close focus position then slowly focus it towards infinity, feeling for resistance. If you force it all the way you can pry the M9 internals away from the lens flange.
