Hi guys, I just got a summilux 35 that came with a hood. I can't take it off! I tried searching online but it didn't really help. One of the things you press down is also snapped off. I just want it off since i don't want to use it.

Any suggestions?

If we are talking about hood 12589, when the hood is in place, the two white dots align on top. To unscrew the hood, twist first the collar (the one with the white dot closer to the camera and the two red arrows) to the left. You can then twist the entire hood slightly to the right and take it off. Don't force anything, a small amount of pressure will suffice.

I removed the hood and replace it with a twist-on from Heavystar when Im doing any meaningful shooting. If the cap gets lost then its only a $1 replacement. Meantime its a more compact setup.

I got my 35 Summilux asph in 2001 or 2002 and the hood arrived with a broken release tab. The dealer, Jim Kuehl sent me a different one as a replacement. I rarely use a hood on the lens but when I do it's the 12451 hood from my 28mm Summicron, a hood that works well. These are great lenses. Congratulations on your purchase. Joe
