Hi guys!
I'm excited that today i got my hands on this legendary lens! According to some data lists, its the 8th copy to be made in 1976, with a serial starting in 2,802,xxx.
I'm going through it today and testing it as best as I can and comparing it to my Canon 35/1.5, making sure it works well. The good thing is that I have 30 days to return in case anything is wrong, but so far it seems it only needs a cleaning. The body is near mint, just the glass has taken a little beating in the front, and is a little dusty inside.

One question I do have for all the lux users on this thread...
Has anyone had any problems using one on a digital body? Upon loading it onto my M240 for testing, I noticed it does not focus to infinity because the rear brass that pushes the rangefinder arm goes from typical thin, to a very thick brass. It seems that the thicker part that comes out when you focus out from minimum starts to rub against something in the M240 body. It becomes stiff then no longer focuses past about 10ft. On my M6 it works flawlessly of course since it was designed for film cameras in the first place. I tried researching this issue a bit online but have found nothing besides one sentence on Ken Rockwell's review that some copies do this, and that Leica fixes them, if they still do.

Has anyone had this issue before? If so, was it sent to modify with someone? I tried asking Youxin Ye but he said he does not do any kind of modification like that.

Any information would help!
And I can't wait to start posting some samples on this thread!

Thank you for that info!

Now i see it is indeed common for some users.

I am not too worried about using the lens on the 240 since i pretty much always shoot my girls at minimum distance, but just to be safe i can always just use it on my Sony A7II for full motion.

In the meantime i can start looking around here in the US to see if anyone is willing to do the mod.

Here is one of my first test shots.
I compared a few scenes yesterday directly with my Canon 35/1.5 and i noticed that the lenses render nearly identical at first glance. Sharpness and bokeh wide open were practically equal with the Lux having slightly rounder bokeh balls.
In terms of color, on the unedited images, the Canon had warmer tones.
But overall, the the Lux came ahead by having almost no distortion, and much less vignetting at the corners.
So far i am enjoying the lens. Cant wait to see film results with it!

Is it wrong that the only reason i strive to have these wonderful cameras and lenses is for documenting my family?
Most people have them for journalism or collecting. The greats of the past associated with Magnum for documenting some of the most important events in history.
But me, just so that i can capture the smiles of my kids as they play, or other friends/family events lol.

Nice shots. Your camera, your stuff, use it as you wish. Who cares what others think. You're lucky to have such photogenic subjects at your fingertips. You'll be glad to document as they grow older, because, as we all know, time only moves, unfortunately, in one direction. You're documenting the world as you see, and that's all that counts.

But really, stop posting, because you're giving some of us ideas that we really need a pre-asph Summilux.

Thanks a bunch Steve!
I know, please don't remind me that every day they grow and soon enough they'll be in HS and it'll be a rare occasion when they'll want to pose for a picture for Dad :(
And don't worry, i was excited on my first day of finally having such a legendary lens in my hands. Now i'll take it easy and probably won't post again until i have some film scans to show you guys.

As promised, I've waited until i got some film results with the lens lol
I did not get many good shots since i rushed through the roll in 2 afternoons in order to get the images back asap haha
In a couple of weeks i should get another roll back also from using the lux entirely. Im quite pleased with how dreamy and classic the images look on film.

Thanks JM!!!
So many great shots you've posted as well.
I'm waiting on some film to get scanned so I can share a few more pics. I'm trying to stop myself from saturating the thread too much lol. But it seems that not too many people are shooting with the lens anymore. I guess the popularity of the lens has gone down hahaha
