i'm about 50/50 with this lens and the 50 preasph lux.(fan of the old glass). you will need to be careful though with flare... wide open, this lens can be a disaster shooting into the sun. Other than that I love it. You can stop down a stop, and it crisps right up.

I think this thread is driving prices up, just saw a titanium-plated version including original hood, pouch an box offered at the famous auction site for a BIN of US$ 4899.99 ... 😱 (the 35/1.4 pre-ASPH version !)

the prices for these lenses are ridiculous. beyond reason. I wish I had a time machine and could go back 5 years and pick up these babies at a more reasonable price. it seems the last few years have pushed them into oblivion.

That's crazy, I bought mine NOS from a dealer.
That price is OVER 2x what I paid.
Maybe it's time to sell 😉

Those are going into collectors territory now.
A plain late Canadian sample though didn't rise much in price by comparison (relatively speaking).
I think, these are still nice pick ups, as optics and mechanics are the same.
There might be a minimal difference in assembly quality (mine had been unopened prior to me and had brass machining burrs inside the barrel (!).
I don't think, this is a common thing to find, but there are lenses, which are born under less ideal circumstances ;-)
If one looks for a user, I would get a nice cosmetically used one without the expensive original hood for a bargain, let it be overhauled by a good technician and score a darth vadar hood, to pair, if more contrast and less flare is your thing ;-)
