M2 and late 35f1.4 pre-asph. Somewhere in eastern Washington State. TriX in Rodinal 1:100 for 19 min.

picked up a 35 Lux on Thursday, 3rd time round with one... it's the only lens i've ever had that i can adore and loath on the same roll of film.

Craig,

Love your photos!

I too have owned 3 of these lenses - the first two are the standard black ones, now my third lens is the titanium-plated brass German version.

I'd be most interested to know more about your love/hate relationship with this lens. For me, it's the compactness and the unique subjective combination of acceptable sharpness & "rendering" results that keeps me coming back to the lens and overlooking the "faults".

Thanks Gabor and Hung.

I love the rendering of this lens, it's beautiful. The way it draws in photos is how I visualize images. At the same time it's a lower resolution, unsharp piece of glass that has the worst coma and blooming and propensity to flare at all times.

It flaws make it unique, but I often find photographs I make with this lens verge so closely on failing because of those flaws (though, those flaws contribute to the images to give me the look I'm after). It's a hard lens to predict and use wisely(though because of the cost it's my only lens), but when everything clicks its stellar - on paper it's a crap lens, but in practice it can be amazing.

@Gabor
Love those night shots - keep 'em coming!

@Jim
That highway shot is amazing ;-)

Darn, I have this pre ASPH sitting here in front of me, still without shroud machining, as I just came back from a trip …

Thanks, Dirk !! :)

Good luck with your DIY project ! The 35 Summilux-M pre-ASPH is worth the effort and hassle, IMHO !
