I recently purchased a pre-asph 50mm Lux, which my Leica-phile friends warned me would be less sharp than the newer asph model.

After testing their newer asph models to mine, I find I actually like the less sharp results. It gives me a natural grain tone that I enjoy.

Anyone else have the same experience?

It's an interesting lens that I'm just learning to appreciate. When you nail it the images it produces are really lovely...

I want a version Two 1960`s version, I`ve heard they are perfect for the style of photography I shoot (Retro 1950`s/60`s PinUp) I have yet to try one, but I`ve heard nothing but good raves about it! 🙂

Have a 1966

v2 and love it. I shoot it mostly wide open, and it works great on film and with digital. Someday I'd like a v3 E46/.7m as well, but I'd like to compare the 2 side by side before just switching. I really like the look of this lens wide open and close up.

Yeah, tell me it's not sharp!

Ya just got to nail it right, then it sings like a sweet bird of spring.

I used to have v.2, but now I have the ASPH Summilux. They are both great. Yes, I do sometimes miss the older version; ideally it would nice to justify both...

Enjoy your lens!

WIDE OPEN AND CLOSE UP WITH THE VERSION 2:

As a friend of mine would say, the 50 pre-asph is sharp enough where the Summilux ASP is biting sharp. I've owned several copies of each and both render exceptional images as well as excellent bokeh.

The pre-asph 'lux (E46 version) has developed quite a following here the last few years for it's wide open performance as well as stopped down sharpness.
