Summilux 50mm E43 vs E46

Tood - presuming the aperture and distance to subject are similar, would you say it looks like the E43 has greater sharpness in the far field?

without settting up some sort of distance measurements on a scale of sorts...I wouldn't have a clue. It appears that's the case though in the above pics of mine. I think the bokeh is better on the newer version (E46) and that's why I bought it, hard to tell on these scans but the proofs have buttery smooth bokeh.

I concur, the E46 pre-asph Summilux has "buttery smooth bokeh".



Not too sharp, not too blurry, not too heavy, and the right amount of coolness. It's Goldilocks-approved 🙂

The E43 lens you are working with used to belong to Erik. It is a very early v.1 Summilux.

This image would me get jump on version1 directly. I have considered for Summarit and E46 for quite some time before. Now I don't know what lens I decide for f1.4-1.5. Jupiter which I own, left me desire a lot (maybe this is wrong adjusted). But the image above, impress me really. Of course, it is technical thing (composition and timing are superb also, wow).

I wonder what do improved coatings for effects? Less flare? More consistent colors? Anyone can compare Summarit to Summilux v1? Since I shot B&W, I would be like interested for "no coatings" or soft coatings but flare resistance at the same time, so it may be tough. My Summicron year 1979 v3 is not that flare resistant either. So I'm tempted for something for f1.4 😛 I use Summilux 35 preasph also so I can see that 35mm fov design is often less perfect than 50mm version due limitations.

Anyone can compare Summarit to Summilux v1?

I cant compare it to a v1 summilux, however if the author of the shaving photo said it was shot with a late version summarit, I would believe it. I have an M mount summarit which looks incredibly similar to that photo. Ironically, my v2 summilux draws a bit different. Thoroughly confused? me too...

If anyone has a line on an E46 summilux, Im officially in the market. Might finally post a photo to this board when I do some tests.
