How well does a Leica Summilux 50mm f/1.4 Aspherical work on a Minolta CLE?
1. Does the lens fit on the camera?
2. Does the focusing patch fall on the subject or is it covered by the lens (with the hood retracted or extended)?
3. Does the 40mm frameline show up?
4. Would framing just inside of the 40mm frameline mimic a 50mm field of view?

Thanks

Hi Asim, I think that it would work, but that that FINE LENS would be best used on a camera with a longer rangefinder base length (so you could use it with confidence wide open), and also with dedicated frame lines.

How about a Leica M3?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have a Leica MP and this 50mm lens... my only camera body and only lens (I don't own any other photography equipment). I'm looking at getting a backup and was thinking that a CLE with 28 Elmarit Asph would be a good combo. But then I was wondering if the 50mm could be usable on the CLE.

I've had a CLE, and while it's a nice little camera, I would not recommend it for a 50/1.4 lens. If you need a back up for an MP with an eye for a 28mm lens, you should have a look at Bessa R4A or M - base length about the same as CLE, but overall a much better body, and the ideal body for the 28/2.8 ASPH in my opinion. Else, get an M6 or M7 with the 0,58x VF.
