Well, today instead of scanning negs from film I developed yesterday, I spent 4 hours at a mall while my daughter was getting her hair cut and streaked. I ate lunch (spicy pork and thick noodle soup) and walked around with my digicam and Bessa R2 (35m Summaron and 50mm Canon f1.8). The Bessa drew the attention of an older gentleman who talked about the original Bessa V's and a Leica M4 that he once had, sold, and regretted doing so. He was impressed with the R2, saying "That's a camera!" Here are some digital shots. Film will be developed at a later date.

Looks like your traditional ham and eggs kind of place.

Markham, north of Toronto, has a high Chinese population and this is an Asian mall. Since my daughter is 1/2 Asian (Japanese) we go where they know how to cut Asian hair.
BTW, a security guard (really big guy) walked by, saw my camera on the table in front of me, but didn't say anything.

Actually, my affinity for Eastern philosophy developed before I met my wife, and before I lived in Japan for a year teaching English.

That's it. Do you remember what the photography rules are there?

Twenty years ago this country had rather an irrational fear of the 'Asian Tide' as they refered to it ... swamping us from the near north.
Now they sit around eating their stir fries with their chop sticks ... feeding their zionistic fears of Muslims and all things from the middle east! :bang:

Canada has an interesting but less than honourable history in the treatment of both Japanese Canadian citizens (relocation during the war years) and Chinese immigrants (head tax). My wife's father's family lost prime BC real estate when they were forced to relocate during WW2. It is said that Canada's western rail lines can be measured in Chinese deaths per mile/km. But this is not the place to get into all of that. I just want to say that I think multi-culturalism enriches our lives.

Well said, Frank. I have several cousins living in Canada and enjoying the cultural diversity and tolerance there.

Hatred of any kind (like racial prejudice) harms the person who holds it as well as the people it is directed towards.

I look forward to seeing the film shots. I was stuck at work today...again. Seems I'll also be stuck at work from 1PM on tomorrow. I don't know when my next chance at shooting is going to be. I have three shots on the roll of HP5 that I have in my Nikon FE right now, but I don't want to just develop those.

I love my work, but working there and then going to my second job to work there on a Sunday...that's something anyone would be a little frustrated with. We had a manager quit at the one job and I'm filling in for people at my new job already. My hockey plans on Friday are now shot because I have to work that day at the new job and my boyfriend and the others we're going with have to leave before I get off work so that they can make it to the game. I won't be as frustrated when I see the paycheck and when I start helping people early in the week, but the transition to having two jobs is actually harder than I thought, especially when you lose someone in a big position.
In other words, I'm going to be making the money to get the camera of my dreams and I may not even get the time to use it!
