Okay, I shoot with Hexars (bodies and lenses), and I'm plotting toward an associate's ZI. But all this stuff does share a certain lens mount, so tonight, for the first time in a little while (well after the corporate dust-up), I checked out the Mothership's URL.

There, on the front page, as expected, were both the S2 and M8.2. Not particularly interested in either, partly because there's no way in Hades I could afford either (or justify the expense even if I could scrape together the cash). I was curious about the film-based stuff and what scuttlebutt was going on thereabouts. That's when I came across this.

I was rather surprised by the candor of the photographer, particularly his take on the M8 in terms of his own work (hint: he can't justify the cost). He had a lot of nice things to say about Solms' new Summarit line, however.

As much as the M8 and S2 don't thrill me much, I do hope Leica makes a scheiss-load of DM on them, for obvious reasons. And, much as I'm set on a ZI, if I could somehow swing an M7...

Very interesting interview, indeed. Thank you for pointing it out.

I don't get it. If he uses a high end dSLR, the M8 may be a bit more expensive, maybe even 2x more expensive, but that doesn't seem like an outrageous price for a pro to pay for peerless images.

Toulumne: It depends. If he's shooting with high-end, full-frame dSLRs, I absolutely get his point. He's clearly knee-deep in the M system, and knows his stuff.

And, to that end, I have to take my hat off to Solms for allowing his POV to come through unfiltered, even if that POV is somewhat less than glowing about their latest-and-greatest product (can you even imagine brands C or N doing this?).

I checked out the Mothership's URL.

Barrett, there's only one Mothership, and it's in Cupertino. I know you know this, but I just wanted to clarify for the others so that they don't end up in the wrong place. Just trying to be helpful.

Heh...don't I know it, Mike (as a 14-year-and-counting Mac veteran). But I regard Leica as that other Mothership, at least since I hitched up to the M-mount world (via those heretical Hexen). 😀
