Surviving with just a 50mm lens

Well I tried this morning. Lasted one shot before the 10.5cm went onto the S3 to get some close-ups of some flowers and butterflies and such.

SO IT'S TIME FOR:

PLAN 9CM FROM CYBER-SPACE

Richard. if I were in your place I would sell the MR-4 and get an Elmar 9cm. Besides, it is going to bang up the top plate! If the 3.5cm Elmar and 9cm Elmar were good enough for Alfred Eisenstadt everyone should want one. Pick up a good Weston Master from a dealer that knows how to check it out. I paid $9 for my Weston Master II that I use for all of my Nikon shots that you have seen here.

I can't...too afraid to take it off....what it it does dent the top 😉

Should I ever let go of the MR4 (which is in wonderful cosmetic and working condition) I would a) offer it here first and b) get a good MC meter 🙂
 
Sorry, Brian... but Elmar's ain't too hard to come by for a relatively reasonable price. Therefore, Richard, should the urge to try a 90mm lens hit you, I'll lend you my LTM Elmar, but keep that MR meter.

If I had one, I wouldn't let it go. Same as I'm not selling my own Elmar, mind you, but then, I use it very little.
 
Elmars are easy to come by, and usually cheap. Even the later 9cm f4 coated in M-Mount go for about $100~$150. I love the pictures that I get from my Uncoated one, and it is a keeper. I suppose my opinion is that lenses are the most important accessory for any camera that can take them. The MR-4 is a nice meter; and one in that condition is hard to come by.

I sold off a Mint Nikon F action finder and the very rare Boxed and Mint ACT case that held it and the camera to get my last SP. I have collected Nikon for over 25 years, and that is the only ACT case I have ever seen. But it sat in a closet and the finder sat in a drawer. The SP gets used.
 
90 Elmar is... Well, it's a nice lens. Put a hood on it if you want the utmost in contrast- it does flare a bit, but at least it's not as bad as the J-9...

Cheap. Get a 135 eventually too. They are sharp as well.

Three of four "low-Bid" Torpedoes hit target. Cease-Fire. Would you believe a Canon 135mm F3.5 in LTM, Nikkor 105mm F2.5 in LTM, and a Leica M2 for under $600? I wonder if the seller knows that you have to pull the knob up to get the camera to rewind?

Hahaha, don't worry Joe, Brian has without doubt some extraordinary powers to fetch things like those ones 😉

But don't worry, you'll soon receive your beautiful Canon P and I'm sure I'll soon have a visit from that Leica CL missing from Gene's signature ! 😀

BTW I'm pretty much with Francisco here, I find the 35mm to be a perfect focal length for me.

But only half the package, I'll be using the CL with the CV pancake 35mm lens. I'm aware of the 40 framelines 'problem' but I'll give it a try, leaving a door open for a future 40 just in case 🙄

And as for walking with them... I've set up a calendar system which I hanged on my fridge door so I can rotate between them all 😛 Hope I won't be banned from the Canon RF forum now ! hehe...

Too many cameras, but you understand... temptation was so strong to resist... 😱

And as a new name for Brian... dunno... 'Brian-Bay' ?

My name is Brian. I cannot survive on 50mm lenses alone. I must add more brass and glass to my diet. If God had wanted us to use just 50mm lenses He would not have made Rare Earth Glass and Meteoric Quartz.
 
Y'know, I've been hearing a whole lot more transactions involving the Leica CL (or Leitz-Minolta CL) than the Minolta CLE. That would argue there are a lot more CLs out there than CLEs. Were more CLs made?

LOL! I sure do like mine! And that 40 Rokkor was as if welded in place, as I never used any other lens. I had no wider lens than 35, and the 90mm framelines are so small, that lens is frustrating to use. Good thing the 40 is so very versatile, it was easy to "survive" with it alone.

One think I like about the CLE, and which the CL might share, is that it's so unprepossessing, so innocent and ordinary looking. That was then, I guess now it just looks old-fashioned!
 
I suppose there were more CL than CLEs made but maybe there's more info in (as always 🙂) CameraQuest ?

What worries me in that camera is the life of electronic components. It's said to share them (components, not the whole circuit) with the Minolta XG-1. In fact Gandy has a claim for spare electronic parts in his own CLE page !

I see the CL as a perfect vehicle for that compact 35/40 lens, the Canon 7 is a great camera but it's bigger than a M series Leica and weights a lot, so as a carry everyday Leica I think the CL may be a very good choice 🙂
