Suspect problem on my new R-D1s

Dear all,

Just received my new R-D1s yesterday (body only). Very excited and unwrapped the box to check out if everything is ok. I understand that it could be unfaired to check the framline and focusing point without the lens (i just ordered the lens and it will take approx. 1 week). However, I notice that the focusing point is off-centre and it is place slightly higher to the left when I see it through the viewfinder. Is this normal without the lens attached?

Fearing that the framline and focus point are not level. Please advice as I am totally new to RF system.

Once you put a lens on it should be fine. (I had that same issue 🙂 )

Congrats on the new camera! I also had the camera for a day or so before getting a lens, and I worried about the exact same thing. 😀

Hope your lens comes in quickly... the R-D1's lovely to look at and feel, but much more lovely to take photos with 😀

Hi Jason: Thank you so much, i will certainly post the image once I got the lens.
Just got bad news, there is no stock for Carl Zeiss Biogon 35mm (Black) at Carl Zeiss factory in Japan. Apparently it will take 2~3 months to produce new batch.

But they do have stock for the silver Biogon 35mm, would you mind if it is silver?
By the way, I choose the Biogon 35mm instead of 25mm (I know it is a wonderful lens) because I have difficulty to see the 28mm frameline. To be honest, even the 35mm also. Is it because there's no lens attached to the body?

Could that be because you are left-eyed and/or wear glasses?
I had the same problem with the R-D1.

Not really,
I didn't buy the R-D1 for that reason - that was my solution 🙄.

I'm left eyed and wear glasses. I find the 35mm frames easy to see but the 28mm outer lines are very hard to see, but this is true of all rangefinders.

My solution is to rarely use 28mm lenses. They are pretty close to 35mm anyway. My standard R-D1 line up is 35mm, 50mm and a 21mm with an external finder (a homemade 32mm).

I do have a CV 28mm f2.5, but mostly use it a my street shooter where I don't frame precisely anyway.
