What Huck Fin said that Russ said :)

I'm using the Weins also, and they seem very consistant across the entire range. Although they do have a shorter working life.

Dennis, the Canolite is a little devil that shoots full force every single time. I too get a bluish cast from it, but then, it's a nice flash to use as fill when you want to kill some shadows. Notice that it's synchronized at all speeds!

I should take mine out more often...

I'm sure the Canolite is fine. However, for indoor use, I use a small "auto" flash @ f/8, set the QL-17, @ f/8, and blast away. Pretty good results every time. Have you seen the lens tests on the GIII QL-17, on the Olympus site? Interesting....

Like the pictures, Denis. Let us know what you decide to do about the battery, please. I'm currently under double secret probation for not using the one I bought this past summer and I am using ONLY the G-III until the battery that was in it gives out then I'm not sure what I'll do. So I'll be looking for options.
Thanks, Rob.

Hi Denis:

I have some notes on my website, both on battery options and on servicing the Canonet. If your meter is off with a Zinc/Air battery, then it's just off and and needs to be adjusted (you can probably choose to adjust it for either 1.4 or 1.5 volts while you're at it, so it may make more sense to adjust it for the longer lasting silver cells). There is a trim pot on the back of the meter movement that you use to adjust linearity (a voltage error is greater at higher light levels as you've already noted); i'm not sure if this has enough range to allow for 1.5 volts but it's worth a try. once you have that good, then there's a set screw on the side that lets you adjust the needle position (the equivalent of changing the ASA setting). The set screw is quite hard to reach, you have to work around the wind mechanism to get to it.

Thanks, Rick, for the reminder.
I saw those pages a while ago - will surely revisit and save for offline viewing, to help me with the adjustment - as soon as the holidays are over :)

Judging from the options, I think some adjustment should do the trick - I'll test the setup with silver oxide battery.
If that doesn't do it, I'll try the battery adapter (Schottky diode) next....

Once more, thanks a million for the great site! It's been of immense help on more than one occasion ;)

Regards,

Denis

Russ, do have a link to this? What's the Olympus site?

Gene

I just posted those results, in the "general discussions" site. Perhaps Joe, will duplicate it over here too?

I tested meter when using 1.5V and 1.35V, it does affect less than I image. But I only take b&w photoes with it.
