Akalai, Heath, and anyone else in Sydney.....

The next Sydney Camera market is 20th March at 10am in Ultimo. Fancy getting together there? Or for a beer down Darling Harbour afterwards?

Well Tim, as you know, I attended the market, and I'm really looking forward to trying out my Olympus XA rangefinder....

That makes it rangefinder #3.

Glenn

Hey Glenn, nice to have you on board and not just lurking at last!

Yep, Camera Show on Sunday, I met up with Akalai and Glenn in there. Pretty good show, lots of tables, a lot of gear. If you wanted a manual SLR of any make or description there were 100's there, at pretty low prices. Lots of Leica stuff too. And some really nice Canon R/F's - no P's, thank goodness, I don't need to be tempted - but there was a lovely almost mint VI-T with the 50/1.8 lens.

Glenn, btw, is the mate of mine who I've mentioned a few times as going on photography sessions with.
Good to meet up with another RFF'er; Ashley (Akalai) turns out to be a really fun guy, except for his rather single minded pursuit of odd Contax bits. :)

Anyway, We all did fairly well, Ashley found a handful of obscure Contax filters caps and bits; Glenn got a bargain XA which seems to work perfectly (made much sweeter by seeing another one on a different table at 3 x the price :D ) and I scored a couple of bits for my IIIf - an Elmar 3,5cm lens, and a NOOKY-HESUM close up adapter - at good prices.

We also met up with David, an APUG'er from Melbourne who shoots Large Format. And I mean LARGE - he had an 8 x 20 set up in the Cathedral doing some shots of the interior. That's a seriously big and impressive camera. I can feel the siren lure of large format now.....
He had some contact prints to show us, man, talk about blown away. The detail in those suckers is just phenomenal.

Real funny episode tho was sitting on the steps of the cathedral looking through David's prints; a party of Korean tourists came up and started leafing thru them - he ended up selling 2! And they were only rough working prints he'd brought up as some examples of what the camera was capable of! Mind you, an 8 x 20 contact is seriously impressive even at the rough stage.....

Hey Tim and Glen,

Sunday was a lot of fun, more so for meeting up with some people off this forum! Cool to meet both Tim and Glen in person, got to try out Tim's IIIf....very very nice and Glen's Olympus was definitely a good buy, the design of those XA's is very appealing.

Unfortunately our combined photographic odds and ends were blown away by the 8"x20" mentioned by Tim. Wow, watching the ground glass as your eyes adapt to the darkness under the cloth and seeing the depth of the image in front of you was pretty amazing....best experienced than explained.

Anyway I had a great day, and it was fun meeting both Tim and Glen. Let me know if there are any morning shoots in the city soon....

Cheers,
AKALAI

You lot arn't helping... you're making me miss my 8x10 and wonder why I bought an M2.

Stu :)

Damn, I missed it. If i remember correctly I was busy that weekend and therefore couldn't have made it. Oh well. Maybe next one.

Looking forward to it. Just keep your eyes open for another old fart drooling over the rangefinders - that'll be me! :p
