Australia/New Zealand Sydney Meet Up January 2016

sweet!
Yup, just one 4x5 neg of some sort, which will be used to test out a film scanner I'm working on. Even better if there is a subject in sharp focus.

Edit: If you're not able to get to the meetup, don't worry about this. but thanks for the offer!

Ok done!

Cheers - John

Quejai, really looking forward to hearing about the new scanner project. I've been dipping into your scanner thread periodically. Great project.
John McD, does this mean you'll be coming? Bring the European guests too if they would like to come.
McFingon, it's a real shame you can't make it over this occasion, but if and when you do come over, we'll make a meet up just for you. There are lots of motorbike aficionados here too.

I will do every I can. At the moment it should be ok.

See you then.

John

Belgians in the house John good luck with that! Are they Flemish or Walloons? I myself am from Antwerp. If they are Flemish ask them if they are "van 't stad" or "van de parking"

I am in Sydney on friday to pick up a ski but am driving back on saturday. It never seems to work out.

Got to get something started in Melbourne.

They are the Flemish kind :) But also speak fluent French as many do. One actually is from Antwerp. It's funny that if they choose to speak their own local dialect, they can struggle to understand each other :)

I asked them if they are, "van 't stad". They laughed and replied no. We had discussed the parking analogy before (with the Walloons being in the 'handicap parking').

They then told me a Flemish joke. 'How do people from Antwerp commit suicide? They climb up their ego and jump off!'.

They thought it was hilarious :)

Tomorrow

Tomorrow

Heads up for tomorrow, Sunday 10th January. Meet at 12 noon at Jet Cafe/Bar, south end of Queen Vic Building at one of the outside tables. Thence to lunch.
Hope to see lots of you there.

The good thing is my inflated ego absolves me from wearing a PFD on my ski. :D

I may be a little late. Looking forward to the three Cs.

Edit: Sorry guys I couldn't make it. I'm disappointed I missed it, I was looking forward to the company. I hope a good time was had by all!

Lynn, you were missed! If you can swing it, how does laksa for lunch in the city with Pete and me tomorrow sound? If not, I look forward to catching up with you next time!

Thanks for a fun afternoon everyone! It was great to meet up, chat, and eat some great food. Eugene's local knowledge when it comes to reasonably priced and excellent food is second to none!! Today's dumplings were really great.

Damn ...I only just saw this thread and Im in Sydney! Note to self ...pay more attention next time :bang:

Jon and everyone, I had a great time at today's meet and lunch. Thanks Ong for doing the hard yards at the restaurant. Would have been chaos without your guiding hand.
Some really nice hardware for show and tell too - Ong's self-converted Polaroid to Fuji Instant Film folder and Tim's Retina IIIc(?) particularly impressed.
QueJai showed us the animated CAD files of his upcoming super-scanner. It's very ambitious but we know he can do it!
Great to see Seajak and Fireman JohnMcD as always, and to meet their long-suffering better halves.
Jon, in fact I took the liberty already of asking Lynn to join us tomorrow. He said he will be able to come! I have John's Ilfasol to give him.

If you're up for lunch tomorrow in the city a few of us are meeting at 12:30 at a laksa place at 89 York St. You're welcome to join us!

Pete, it's TMAX in an Ilfosol bottle :) Thanks for passing onto Lynn.

Great day had by all. Excellent company and excellent food :) Must do more often.

Cheers - John

Kerrie and I had a really great time today. A very welcome relief from the renovations :). Great to meet jonmanjiro and QueJai and to catch up with everyone else again. Ong, your choice of restaurant and menu was excellent and much appreciated. Thanks to all for the company and conversation and a very special thank you to pyeh for his energy and enthusiasm in making this happen. BTW there is a really nice outdoor cafe just over the bridge into Mullumbimby which would be perfect for the next meet-up :D.

cheers,
clay

Calebarchie, you're welcome to join us for lunch tomorrow too, if you have time. Ipoh Town, 89 York St, as Jonmanjiro says. This will be a meet up for stragglers!

Very close, instead of UTS I go to UNSW. Going into third year of mechatronic engineering this year - what about you? Do you go to UTS?

And thanks all for a nice gathering!

Cheers, I will try if work permits - I'll probably be a mess though.
