my absolutely gorgeous 50/1.4 lens (from ray g) arrived today and so did my like new hood for that same lens (from victor m)!!
the hood and mint leather case are so near perfect they look like they were frozen in time.
and the glass on the 1.4 is dazzlingly clear and it seems to have the perfect & complimentary amount of chrome & black to mate perfectly with the p.
machine nirvana.
i will have to use this combo more than anticipated just cause it looks so damn good together.
and good timing for me as i'm heading out later to catch some live music with a buddy so the extra speed just might come in handy in the dimly lit club.
happiness is a large belch after a bout of gas...

Woooho !
Curious isn't it ? I still remember that same happened to me once, I received together (literally, packages tied together with a rubber band) my CV 35 Pancake and the Hoya vented hood for it, one from Norway, the other one from UK.
We have our bad moments with gear sometimes, but I still think there's a god for gearheads up there

Yes, the 50/1.4 and the P do seem like they were made for each other. Enjoy the lens, Joe!!
Yes, Belches are Better than the Alternative!
Sounds like you have a winning combination, that Canon 50mm F1.4 is a Fantastic lens. It is the only 6-element 50mm F1.4 from that period (and most periods) made possible by Canon's high-index of refraction glass.
Technical Photo Tip 1138:
Never snap a picture while belching, though. Fogs the lens and shakes the camera.

Well-known
Just put in a low bid on another 50/1.4. I always buy hoods, then lenses.

first impressions on the 50/1.4...what a nice lens.
it has both a knurled ring and an infinity lock.
i have gotten to the point where i prefer the infinity lock.
it's my only knock against the 35/2, no lock.
the lens is comfortable to use, a nice size and fits perfectly on the p, very well balanced.
and damned attractive to boot!!
my plan is to try to use this lens exclusively for awhile, to get used to it. and try to get myself used to a 50.
i noticed last night i was using the 35 framelines while shooting the 50, i expect to have some poorly framed shots.

Clearly you need to buy a 35/1.8 -- it's got an infinity lock.
Or if you want a really fast 35 to go with your 50/1.4, grab this 35/1.5 , also with infinity lock (unfortunately that 35 isn't known for being particularly sharp, though)
