This is what I also meant to say. It is the words that can get inflamed.
Yea, & that is a shame. I've seen it hapen here too much. I do agree with you & Joe. So far the photo's that have been posted are awesome. It's a darn shame our leaders can't get along. These photo's in Syria look to be such a nice place to visit.

The people there are simple people, and they are overall nice and welcoming people.

We did a day trip from Damascus to the ancient city of Palmyra about 240km north east of Damascus while visiting Syria. The ruins are extremely well preserved after having been buried in the sand for centuries. Its sad to read that some of these ancient ruins have been damaged by recent fighting.

Thanks Raid - to me , the thread shows the commonality of the human experience. Everywhere, people are people and have the same joys and loves and fears. It's good to be reminded of this and also sad to think about the current situation in contrast.

The well known ancient city of Palmyra is known as Tadmur in Arabic.

People are people. Some are luckier than others, but almost all people love their homeland. It must be that feeling of belonging.

The real struggle is not with Syrian Christians. It is the Allawites against the religious portion of the Sunni Moslems. Like what you see in many other countries, minorities protect themselves by showing allegiances to the ruling in Iran. g party. The type of Shia beliefs practiced that you see in Allawites is vastly different from what you see in Shia in Iraq or in Iran. The Allawites are nearly secular in Syria.

Thios is one of the best thresds we've had IMO. Thanks to Raid and to all who posted images here. I'll have a fresh view when I watch the news tonight.
Here's a few shots of the Roman ruins in Bosra, in the south of Syria near the border with Jordan.
And a few more from Damascus.
That's me on the far left. The wall behind us is the rear wall of Omayyad Mosque in Old Damascus.
