Does anyone know if the T-50 hood will work on a Canon 35mm f1.5?

Attached is a picture of the T-50.

thanks

I have that hood - for my black Canon 135/3.5 which is a wee bit different 🙂

http://www.cameraquest.com/crflen.htm suggests there wasn't any hood offered for the 35/1.5 but since the cap was 50mm the T-50 should fit. However, I'd be willing to bet that it will vignette badly.

Edit: Actually looking closer, my hood is different from that one although mine is called T-50. I still believe that hood would vignette ona 35mm lens, however.

Thank you for the response, that's exactly what I was wondering about. I too saw that Cameraquest didn't suggest a hood for the Canon 35/1.5.

I guess the S-50 hood might be a better option(?).

Anyone have experience with either of these hoods on a Canon 35/1.5?

Attached is a picture of the S-50.

You might get away with an S-50 hood but the T-50 is certainly too long. I can't check on the T-50 until tonight but I am sure some of the Canon Hoods were based on the Series VII ring. It should be fairly easy to get a replacement WA hood to fit. 😉

There is an W-50 hood as well, so I guess cameraquest isn't correct in this statement.

I've never heard of that one. How is it different than the S-50 and T-50? Is the W-50 made for the Canon 35/1.5?

The W-50 could be made for cheapo FL wideangle lenses as well, so I wouldn't pay a "rangefinder extra charge" on it... 😀

It's fact that CANON started the W-, S- and T-hood series later than introduction of the 35/1.5 (1958), or 50/1.4 (1959), probably 1960 or 1961. Hoods marked with 1.4/50 and S-50 both exists but none marked with 1.5/35. Also I've seen no hood marked with 1.8/85 (lens introduded 1961) but tons with T-60, T-60-1 and T-60-2.

I think Canon's "king of flare" will benefit from a hood performance-wise...

I agree with Frank that the only hood that might work would be the W-50. I'm not certain what the W-50 was made for, but a B&H April 1968 catalog mentions the 25/3.5, 28/2.8, 35/2 and 35/1.5 as all having built-in hoods.

The S-50 was made with the angle of view of a 50mm lens as the objective. That's way too small for the AOV of a 35, and vignetting is a given.

*Update*

You guys were right. I took some test shots with both the T-50 hood and the S-50 hood on my Canon 35mm f/1.5. Both exibited vignetting, the T-50 much worse obviously.

The first picture was taken with the T-50 hood, the second with the S-50 hood.

I bought a w-50 at a camera show for a decent price many years ago.
yes, these were made for the FL slr series, so do not pay rf bull prices for it.
this hood work good on the 35/1.5, but it blocks 1/4 of the rf image on an ltm Leica .
it works super when the hooded lens is mounted on the Canon 7.
