T4 Super D Opinions

So I'm looking for ever more discreet cameras to use in the rougher parts of the city I shoot in, so as not to advertise "please mug me and take my camera." The T4 Super D fascinates me in its simplicity, and from what I've read, there is no sacrifice in quality for such a straightforward point and shoot. I am especially intrigued by being able to shoot waistelevel with a point and shoot! Any opinions on these little cameras? $200 U.S. seems to be what they are going for on the used market online - worth it?

Great camera with a great lens. Don't expect to actually be able to use the waist level thing though. It's super small and difficult to use at waist level. It more of a novelty. The regular viewfinder isn't all that accurate either.

I use mine occasionally for street shooting and like it better than the Contax T and Contax T2 that I tried. I particularly like it as a travel camera loaded with color slide film.

Only frustration is having to turn off the flash every goddam time but it become second nature.

Thanks Nightfly - so you have to reset the flash every exposure, or is it reset every time the camera powers off? either way - that is a bummer. Thanks for the advice.

You change the setting of the flash when turning on and off, not every shot. Beyond this, you really have no control on the camera, just point and shoot!

The super scope is great at chest level.... waist level will be too far. The framing is not exactly precise, but you at least get a general idea what objects will be in the picture.

Zeiss Tessar lens is superb. It is more contrasty than Sonnar found on T2 while the resolution power is about the same. Great lens! Imagine this is a plastic body Contax with no aperture or focus control. But otherwise you get the same level of satisfaction of picture quality you expect from Contax T cameras! Price-wise, I feel $150~$200 is more reasonable. Although I won't mind to pay a little bit extra if it is in mint condition and comes with all original box and accessories.

The waist viewer is useable at the waist but it is only the size of your pinky nail. I don't know if that will work for you or not. It is indeed a nice little camera, but you have no control over anything but the flash.

I got one for my wife when it was still being made. It's a nice little camera with a decent lens. Here's a photo she took with flash off on Tri-X (scan's kinda lousy)--
