My M6 (Classic) is due a service soon, and I'm thinking of having the 50/75 mask replaced with one carrying 50mm brightlines only.

I've twice made the effort to get used to having a 75mm CV optic on my M6, and twice come to the conclusion that those tiny vestigial corner lines are next to useless – if I really wanted to use that focal length I feel I'd be better off picking up a Bessa with its lovely unsullied 75mm frames. Add to that the fact that my M2 has reminded me of just how wonderful a clear finder with only a single set of lines is, and I'm now certain that I'd be happier without them.

So can anyone see any issues with having this work done? I'm not interested in resale values or anything – I've no intention of parting with this camera.

I couldn't read about any issues from those who have had framelines removed. DAG does this for cheap and I would ask him if it is reversible, just in case.

I have one with, and one without 75 lines.

I regret the mod now on the second body, because I got a 75 Summilux ...

I also find the 75 lines when using a 50 lens a real nuisance. I got close to getting DAG to remove them (and the 135 lines). I still might do it. Now that I have a 75 Summarit, I find the 75 lines inadequate! I will persevere for a while, but the Bessa R3M is looking good.

I think part of my issue with the M6's 75mm lines is down to having previously owned a couple of Bessas. One of the advantages of those cameras having manually set brightlines is that they're not stuck with Leica's pairings, so the 75 gets the viewfinder all to itself with a wonderful set of proper, grown-up brightlines.

Next to that the Leica's seem pretty useless things, and they only serve to clutter up the field of view of the lens that I use most often.
