Talented Bunch!

This week I took the time to look through the galleries and I have come to a conclusion that we have a very talented bunch here in RFF! Although the number of photos in our gallery is small compared to other older sites like photo.net, the standard in our galleries are very high in terms of originality and technical competence. :D

I have to agree with Peter. I have started to go through the galleries and am enjoying the photos very much. Good place to learn and see fresh ideas.

I have learned alot from everyones images, keep posting!

I find the gallery both fresh and varied. Lots of different subject matter, different approaches, and different styles. When you see the work of folks who are passionate about their photography, it's energizing. Keep 'em coming! Your photos are teaching me a lot about RF photography.

That is quite correct. As we all know, it's not the vision of the shooter, but the quality of the camera!

ah, i see you've been to the leica forum:)

Actually, I don't care for Leica's, and I don't know how to gain access to the Leica forum. (let the flames begin) I acknowledge the quality and construction of the Leica's, it's just that I find them ergonomically poor and slow for my style of shooting. I have tried repeatedly, but just do not like using them. I like the speed and simplicity of the fixed lens rangefinder's. I feel the same way about interchangeable lens rangefinder's. If I am going to have to fiddle with lenses, I find it much faster and productive to slap a fixed 28mm prime or high quality short to medium zoom onto one of my SLR's.

russ,

we belong to the same club as i don't care for leicas either. i had one many years ago and sold it.
i assumed you were giving me the gears about my comment and thought i'd be a smart ass back at ya.

although when it comes to leicas and leica owners, some of them are quite fanatical. kinda scary.

I just found out that I'm relegated to page 5 (from page 4) in the Members Gallery list!

What does it mean?! It's got nothing to do with the quality of my pics, right? Right?!

Whenever share my disliking of Leica's, I get flamed and ridiculed. But that's how I feel about them. After 27 years of shooting with manual focus SLR's and fixed rangefinder's, I can shoot as fast as the "auto-everything" boys. I have a buddy that does a lot of street shooting, and used Leica rangefinder's exclusively for over 30 years. We swapped rigs for one week, and because of that experience, he now uses his Nikon FE-2 and 28-90 zoom for most of his shooting. When comparing prints, we can't tell which rig they were made with. After all it's the picture that one remembers, not the camera that it was made with. Throughout the history of photography, about 98% of the most memorable images made, were made with cameras and lenses much inferior to what we have access to and are using today....

Don't feel bad. The gallery does not even accept or recognize my name, thereby preventing me from posting any pics in it.....

We all have preferences in what camera we like to use. I think the key is to not necessarily slam people for their choice.

We're all different in what we like to use. Personally I hate the feel of the Mamiya 645 and Rollei 8000-series MF cameras and consider the Hasselblad to be miles ahead of them in quality and feel. That's a personal preference - nothing more.

I also dislike zoom lenses and that's again another preference. Something that I can afford to have - and act upon - being just a hobbyist/enthusiast.

On the other hand I like fixed lens rangefinder cameras and love the feel of the Leica M3 which I now consider to be the best made camera body ever made. According to me.

I didn't intend to slam anybody, and if I did, I apologize. I think that someone should use whatever camera or tool that serves their purpose. We are all different, with different taste's, and that's the beauty of it. If we all used and shot the same thing, it would be quite boring in this world and in this group.

Once again, if I came across as belittling or offending anyone, I apologize. That was not my intent.

Richard,
As a Leica M3 fan, have you handled one of the FSU clones? I found the handling very comfortable with my new Zorki 4K, and was astonished at how well it focused. The quality of the pics probably aren't close to Leica with the J8 lens (mine kind of rattles, but photos are crisp), but then for $30 usd I'm happier than a porcine in a terrestrial poop pile. :D

H*, no never really had the chance to take a FSU-built camera body out to play and in a way I must admit that I'm not terribly eager to. I keep hearing about the lacking quality control, having to send back cameras until you 'get a good one, etc, etc.

One of the things that I really like about the M3 is the very solid build. I really wanted a high quality, manual camera to compliment my Hasselblad. For some time I used the Olympus 35SP as just that but I must say that after having used the M3 for some months now there is no going back.
There's also no real 'need' for me to get one as I'm not a fan of multiple camera bodies with me at the same time.

Many people like the Kiev/Fed/Moska/Zorki-lines though and that's great I think.
