Michael Tapes is a photographer who has designed some very useful products for other photographers (LensAlign, FocusTune, WhiBal and Instant JPEG from RAW). He knows about taking pictures; he also knows about the tools we use for taking pictures. He has reviewed the new Sony A&7r II’s dynamic range, for me an exceptionally important quality, as compared to Canon and Nikon performance in the same department, all with their new MEGA megapixel offerings (and tossed in an earlier, less MEGA camera to boot). He promises to make comparisons in other departments in a future posting. I think what he has written is important to all of us gear heads facing the future. Here is the articles as it appeared on the Luminous Landscape. (Please add your thoughts as to the importance of dynamic range. For me, it’s important. For other photographers working in more controllable situations for the majority of their work, it may not be as important.)
