Shoot.
I can't be the only one who likes putting tape on cameras, can I? Especially my Kiev - I found out that some people are fascinated with Cyrillic script and it attracts unwanted attention.
Just 5 mins ago I also taped the camera in such a way that the back wouldn't fall off in any reasonable situation (dropping the camera from head level, banging it about, etc), so when I go to China tomorrow, I can shoot happily (I'm only going to use this camera as emergency/for sneak shots, bringing a dSLR as well)
Show a photo of your taped camera, explain why you taped it

Don't know about taping but I must get a 'My Other Camera Is A Leica' sticker for my M3.

That's a good idea!
Stick that on your M3 and carry a Zorki on another strap. The M3 definitely won't get stolen.

Dear Bill,
An especially intriguing link for me, because I'd made the same points in my most recent AP column about theft of M-series Leicas with red dots. As far as I can see, my column (issue dated week ending Saturday 6th February) was about a week after his blog entry, though of course it was sent in several weeks before it was published. The two are so close in some ways that I'm glad neither of us can accuse the other of plagiarism.
As for sticky tape, here's a pic from a forthcoming short piece on my site about why I think it makes cameras more obtrusive, not less.
Cheers,
R.

I use black bodies and I do tape off the white logos. I found while photographing people--I am engaging them directly to do this--their eyes would drift to a point just above the lens. What they were doing was reading the camera name. I taped it off with a small piece of black tape and I have not noticed the problem.
There is nothing inconspicuous about holding a large box with a lens in front of your face whether the logos are visible or not. If the act of photographing does not grab their attention, then the logos won't.

I taped mine using gaffers tape for a couple reasons,
– it's actually grippier/more secure to the touch while holding the body
– to stop it scraping the hell out of things when i wear it around my neck
– cover up the forward logo because i just like the look of the MP better than the spelled out Leica CL
– and who knows, because the body was such in mint condition if i later on wish to resell it to go to an M* it'll probably go for a bit more if it doesn't have scratches and scrapes, chips and chunks of paint missing out of it..
those are just my reasons though.. i'm all for using cameras for the sake of photographing. i love it.
according to some people's definitions here; my 'pimped' out CL, lol.

Only time I taped a camera -- several in succession, actually -- was to demonstrate that some shutters and mirrors were louder than others.

I only taped a camera once in my life. I had a brand new Canon EF and took it to the Opryland Amusement Park in Nashville, Tennessee. I just taped the EF letters, not the Canon on the pentaprism. One young man turned around as he was walking and almost stumbled trying to see my camera which was hanging on my chest. Not sure why I taped it that day. Never did it again.

I've been shooting portraits, formal and informal, for nearly 40 years and I can honestly say I've never had people preoccupied with the camera logo. Talking to other people in the room, distracted by phone calls, etc., yes, but never a camera logo. I guess I'm just not using the right equipment!
Damn, you too?
No one around here cares about me and my camera I guess. Perhaps I could start wearing a bright yellow Speed Graphic on a neck strap. This could attract the babes too I suspect. (D'ya think?)

Yeah, it is annoying, people come up 'woah, that a Leica? I love those! take good care of it! etc! yadayada!'. But taping is just too 'in-crowd' and HCB-did-it-so-it-must-be-good, for me to actually go out and buy black tape just for that purpose.

The only time I've taped a camera was to hold it together.
