Can anyone recommend a CLA tech in Central NJ? I know the Leica service center is in Allendale but I want a shop/person I can stop by, drop off my camera, pester with questions, shoot the breeze, etc and trust my M to. Someone who will hopefully be around for years to come.

Yes, Essex it is for me too. They're technically in Northern NJ, but a LOT closer to central NJ than Allendale, about 40 minutes south of Allendale.

I drop off and pick up, but while they're very polite and professional, I don't think you'll be able to actually stop in and "shoot the breeze" as you say. The techs are behind a sliding window and it seems the manager will talk to you thru the open window, but you can't, of course, walk in among the techs at their workbenches. They do answer your questions, but like I said, very polite and businesslike, in the Japanese business tradition.

Do not expect to shoot the breeze with the people at Essex. They are very polite and business-like, but it's clear they do not welcome conversation. Perhaps it's the language barrier. They are all Japanese.

How is the quality of work and promised delivery times at Essex? I am a bit paranoid as once they have your camera, your sort of held hostage.

I did call up Leica in Allendale. It seems their M camera tech has retired and are training new ones as we speak. I know the quality of training will be good as it is the official Leica repair site but one would want more experience.

If I can't drop off the camera in person, then I would likely use Sherry Krauter. Not within driving distance comfortably (about 2 hours) but I can fed ex it easily within a day.

Great, I will definitely use them as I can personally drop off and pick up, has fairly fast turn around time, both of which are a big plus.

Thanks to all.
