TechPan experience

Had bought some 120 TechPan, expired 1995. Took pictures of a church on a late Florida afternoon, just before sunset.
Developed in Diafine, Solution A= 3mins, Solution B=45 secs, followed by water Stop Bath, Fix, and then Perma Wash.
Scanned Nikon 9000ED.

Contrasty negatives, almost glass-like clear base, not very thick film.
(Wish I could reduce contrast at scanning !- Any suggestions/comments ?)

Why only 45 seconds in part B? Also, what iso did you rate the film at?

The pic looks good to me, I like the detail and contrast as is.

I always had best results rating at 80 and using photographer's formulary TD-3 with TP.

I like it. I have 1 roll of 120 Tech Pan. I have Diafine and Xtol. I was leaning toward Xtol 1:5 on the Kodak data sheet. Now I'm thinking that Diafine might be right. Or even a presoak and Diafine 1:1. Break all the rules! A coin toss will decide.

I followed the link. I have Microphen also. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...I wish I had more rolls of Tech Pan.

I have shot some Technical Pan rated at EI 25 in 135 format. I have developed them in Rodinal, 1+150, 20°C, ca. 9 min. Negative is quite thin but usable. We used a lot of TecPan in the lab, everything from photomicroscopy to pictures of gels.
You could rate it from EI 25 to 100 and develop it in about anything. Technidol gave best results, with the widest range of tones.
Out of Technidol? D76 worked OK with some loss of resolution maybe more contrast than you wanted.
I developed my last rolls in Ilfosol S; contrasty but pretty. Shot below is from the GW690III;
TechPan rated at 25, developed in Ilfosol S 8 min @ 20 C. This resized pic does not do justice to the original.

My scanner does not handle contrasty negs at all. I usually make prints and then scan the print.

The contrast is always the conundrum, blooming highlights are kept in check by using a diluted developer and little agitation. Technidol used to work fine, however for pictorial work it needed lotsa tweaking.
Rodinal 1+100 was a good alternative for this film, and I guess HC110 dilH would work as well.

I have been trying the new Rollei ATP as a replacement and it has great pictorial quality.
Very nice clear base, no curling, incredibly fine grain (could not find it at 60x80cm/24x36in/25X enlargement)

and I used a developer by "Peterson?", which was blue in color and was an extended tonal range developer.
Agitation at ~1/min, and a long cold development.
I have no idea what the chemistry was, but used to shoot the white at ASA-6-10 and the rest of the greys went up from there.

It also worked with Tri-X and could give either ~3200 or shot it at ~100 and get ~12 steps of grey. If you could get that devolper I would recommend it.

Photographers Formulary TD-3 is a superb TP developer. I've shot a lot at ISO 80 with that... great combination... RIP

I like techpan for high contrast:

Shot with a Canham 810/Nikkor-W 240 Techpan 120 in a Cambo 67 back, developed in Dektol.

However the new Moersch/maco developer for tech pan is quite good
