Tele Rolleiflex and 0.35 Rolleinar

Just bought a remarkably clean original Tele Rolleiflex (version 1) at a good price. Also found a 0.35 Rolleinar that allows close focus to 4 1/2 feet.

The EVS metering is not clear to me how to use. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

The camera advances film smoothly, the one second exposure sounds a little long, but for now this Rollei is usable as is for a while. The Rolleinar flips open and allows essentially close focus to do incredable head shots.

Eventually, I will send the Tele to Harry Fleenor for a CLA and Maxwell screen upgrade. My MF kit is now complete: Mamiya 6MF with 50/4.0; Rolleiflex 3.5F "Whiteface" (Fleenor shutter and transport overhauls, and Maxwell screen upgrade); and now a Tele Rolleiflex.

Interestingly, the 135mm focal length I find is like the FOV of my 75 Lux, and that is a good thing. I generally only carry two cameras at a time in a Domke 803 sachel with the inserts for the side pockets from a Domke J-1. Kinda perfect.

Congrats on the new acquisition, though I would put "close focus" w/the 0.35 Rolleinar in quotes. 😉 If you're looking for a beat, but usable 0.7 (big, ugly gouge on the taking lens, but no discernible effect on film), let me know.

Personally, I like using the plain ground glass Maxwell screen (w/grid) on the Tele: when the DoF is that shallow, focus aids can be redundant. You might need to get it via special order from Maxwell, though.

As far as the Maxwell screen upgrade: I already have the split/prism/microprism screen on my 3.5F where it works good, but I agree with you that the Maxwell bright screen with grid is the better choice here with the Tele. I use a similar screen on a Nikon F3 with a 105/1.8 and love it.

With the 3.5F being a 41mm 35mm equivilent, inbetween a 35 and a 50, I can see that carrying the two Rollei's as a long-short kit as being ideal. This weekend is the Coney Island Mermaid parade Saturday, and Sunday is a family gathering for my Girlfriend's birthday and father's day celebrations. Kinda stoked.

The EVS locks the aperature and shutter so they index together, but what remains unclear to me is how to link an exposure reading. It seems that I can lock any aperature to the shutter selection in a random kinda way. I'm wondering if this is in need of repair because this does not seem right or cannot be right.

BTW I got a great price on account that I pointed out the slightly slow shutter and because I'm a good customer, on top of that the camera is in otherwise remarkably great condition. Kinda included in the price the cost of a Fleenor shutter and transport overhauls if needed, as well as a screen upgrade.

I'm a lucky guy.

Figured out how the EVS metering works. Pretty easy.

The Tele Rolleiflex was used about a third of the time when I shot the Mermaid Parade last Saturday. Made a great two camera kit with a 3.5F Xenatar to cover the event. Oh what fun. The added reach of the Tele came in handy, and only used the Rolleinar a few times, but I was glad it was there.

THe great news is that the Tele is good to go and does not need any immediate service for a while. I also replaced a split prism screen that was likely the original screen with the screen that came out of my 3.5F that is a mat screen with grid and a large circular bright patch, no microprism and no split prism. A lot brighter BTW.

The two Rollei's as a kit with film in a Domke 803 is eleven pounds. Like Goldie-locks: not too big; not too small; just right.
