From my limited research and testing with demo versions, it appears to me that Silverfast has the best auto color correction of the available scanning software (that will work with my epson 4490). This makes it very appealing to someone like me who:
a) Doesn't have a device for monitor calibration
b) Loathes post production and would really like to just have decent scans without all the tweaking.

I've been trying cd's from different labs and they are pretty much all disappointing. So what is everyone's experience in scanning color film (pos and neg) with silverfast?

I use Silverfast Ai with Epson V700.
Scanning colour can be pretty frustrating, but of all options that's the best I have found and use.

Anyway a) having your monitor calibrated is important. That's the only rough reference you can have. You don't have to own a calibrator, just borrow one.
