thinking about getting the xm body and marrying it to my fuji 27 for an every day carry, quick street shooter kit.
who has an xm, what do you think of it?
a big attraction for me is the tilting screen...

I had an XA1 and liked it very much with the 27 attached.
The tilt screen was wonderful for waste level shooting; I loved it.
It made beautiful pictures, but note that the XM1 has a different sensor.
I sold it because I ended up always grabbing my X100 as a carry-around. The size / weight difference between those two setups was not important to me.
I also sold that 27mm but immediately realized my mistake and bought another one

You mean the X-M1, right?
I bought one specifically for the reasons you site: 27, flip screen, street use. My only complaint is the live view lag. Otherwise, I think it's a great choice, especially given the current used price.
I prefer my GR, but to think you can get an X-Trans body for $200 - 300 is pretty amazing.

It's the same sensor as the X-Pro1. Not sure whether it has the first or second processing engine, but the files look just like the X-Pro's to me. I find that incredible at that price.

While I still haven't pulled the trigger on one I've been torn between the XM1 and GR.
I've got bright line fingers for 28 and 35 that would work well.
If I had another X-body I would think the M would be a great EDC (Ever Day Carry) camera that keeps my work-flow (post processing) the same.
While I over the Ricoh UI, and the GR is a most excellent sized camera, one of the driving forces from me to move from Leica M to Nikon S was going to the same direction of focus and aperture as I grew up with (Nikon SLR).
I've got bright line fingers for 28 and 35 that would work well.

keeping it in the family allows for a back up if needed, a second or third body to keep lens changes to a minimum in inclement weather...

I know it sounds weird, but I'm thinking the XM1 for a wide (28 or 35 in FF-world) and XT10 for a 75 and 300. Keep things small, light and simple.

You might seriously consider the XA1 as well.
I bought Daves old one. The 16mp Bayer files look beautiful.
Fuji knows Bayer as well as anyone. There is defineyly a look that is different to the Xtrans files. Not better just different.
I also notice battery life is much longer with the XA1 compared to the XE1 and Xpro1.
That may again be the bayer vs X-trans Sensor.
I have the XA1 set up with the 27mm. Sometimes I use it with a CV optical VF.
The camera is great for events. I used it as my close crop camera during buddy walk this year.
Set the focus to the face detection mode and just frame. It works great and delivers good looking color frames.
The f1.4/35mm is great on this little camera too

Here is an X100 Comparison. Check out these new killer lightweight grips! The add only 38 grams of weight (1 1/3 oz) and yet are perfectly moulded to your hand and strong as hell.

so the xa1 is almost an xm1 but with a bayer instead of xtrans sensor...sold only as a kit though (around here anyway)...so for the new price of an xm1 body only i can get an xa1 with a 16-50 zoom...
but if i can get a used xa1 body only it should be pretty cheap indeed...if sold at a 'fair' price...

Yep pretty cheap..when the xa1 first release, the were not many takers. Then some time later they had a fire sale of a sort. The price of the kit could be seen as the cost of the kit zoom plus I think it may have been something like 0-50 bucks for the body. I think enough people bought it then and sold the body to c if they could make a profit...

- Love the Fuji colors especially for people
- back to basics controls
- off/evf
Now w/ the improved evfs we c today..not so much the of anymore.
Shooting landscape or detail work..that's the foveon domain.

So the M has the xtrans sensor (ala the more expensive fuji X bodies) where as the A has a Bayer filter?

$150-$200 for a body depending on condition.
Prior to becoming attached to the one I have, I had it up for trade for a 56mm.
Figured the body at $200 and the 27 at $200 for about a $400 value.
After using it a bit more, I like the results enough that i would sell the x100 over the xa1 and 27mm.
I may put the new 2/35 on the xa1 at some point as well.
If you can find a good clean XA1 for $150-$200 I would say go for it!
