Tell me he didn't really do this ...

Glenn, if you weren't from Canada I would have posted that kids tape up hockey sticks just because it looks cool. 🙂

Come on, can't HCB have just some human foibles?

it doesn't look like paint on the summicron, more like he took a sharpie and colored it black 🙂

Oh man, what a tosser! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Yeah, with such focus and fussing about his gear he'd suck at actually using it. Probably a collector too.

😀

My guess on the taped body thing, maybe he had or was having problems with light leaks and was simply protecting his film? Maybe he had some shots ruined in the past with an older/different body and now just does that out of habit to make sure?

I don't know if this is true or not but a friend in Dallas tapes up his M4 so it looks cheap. Thay way nobody pays him any attention when he's street shooting.

I don't think it's an M3. Look at the red dot on the lens release button: it's an M6. In fact, he (or someone) blackened the red dot on the camera body, but not on the lens release.

Like people will notice you or your camera just because of a red dot... 🙄 That's a lot of power for a little red dot! 😱

Could it be laquer painted on the chrome? I've wanted to try that on something to see if it protects. Laquer is good because it's really hard, but it can easily be fully removed with laquer thinner no matter how many years pass. Looking at the lens cap and the way it's chipping off it may be laquer..
Don't think I'd experiment with a Leica though. I've got a beat up fsu or two that may be good candidates.

It's a special issue 'cron finished in black tape at Solms. They say nearly 19 hours and 97 contol/adjustment operations went to applying the tape to the lens.

That changes it all, doesn't it?
