Just got a new scanner and the Asph. 50 'lux. Test images and comparisons posted on the Leica forum of PN on 6/25. Let me know what you guys think. P.S. thanks for encouraging me to finally get a scanner.

Sorry, I don't know how to create a link but if you click on "Photo.net" under "Cool Links" on the left side of the page it will take you to the main page and then go to "Leica Photography" to get into the forum where the three postings are listed on 6/25.

vol72, how did you create that link? Sorry for being unfamiliar with doing such tasks, I'm still trying to learn.

Just copy from the adress field of your browser (when logged into the relevant page) into your post.

I'm still confused. When you say "copy", do I type in the address from the address bar just above the top of the page that I want people to go to? How do I work it so that when you click on the address inside the reply that it automatically goes to the link. I assume it has something to do with "copy" when you right click the mouse.

How does this lens handle on the Leica M? Do you have any feeling that it is too big or too heavy?
In terms of optics, how does it compare to the 50mm Summicron at f/2 and f/2.8? Is it only a marginal improvement or a leap?

Go to the adress, left-click after it;it goes gray. Rightclick and select-leftclick "copy"from the menu that appears.
Return to the post you are composing, put the cursor where you want it and right-click. Select and left-click"paste"from the menu. The link will appear in your message in the correct form. This is general Windows and not something special from this site.

Regarding size and weight, it's about the same as the previous Summilux which is just right. Performance over the current Summicron at f/2 or f/2.8 is marginally better with the Asph. being a tad better centrally but the Summicron was a little better near the edge at the same apertures. See this: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00CfpU and that: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00Cft2. The asph. and reportedly non-asph. are much better in resisting unwanted reflections from strong light sources outside the picture frame probably due to the high number of plano surfaces in the current Summicron design. Compared to the non-asph. Summilux, the asph. version is a leap in performance primarily with off axis performance due to reduced astigmatism, less distortion and a flatter field of focus. I would expect a gain in off axis sharpness by a couple of stops compared to the old Summilux.
