Well we are all thankful that Kodak released ektar 100 and as we all know ektar was based off the vision series of cine movie film which have been praised throughout the industry for their ability to render color and highlights well without large amounts of grain. But as we are all happily snapping away with Ektar, has Kodak been sitting on something even more amazing? I got this link off the figital revolution facebook page http://www.twinlenslife.com/2010/02/films-future-is-far-brighter-than.html
where the author tests out the vision 500t film with stunning results. Based on his tests this film out performs fujifilm 800z even when rated at 3200!! Im seriously thinking of ordering a can of this film, as I have a movie film lab that said they do not mind developing short lengths if I send over 5 or 6 rolls at a time!

funny someone should mention this stuff - i've got some on order and plan to develop it as c-41. someone wish me luck dealing with the remjet backing!

Yeah this stuff seems really amazing! It seemed a timely post since the discontinuation of the fujifilm 800z. If kodak ever decides to release this stuff without the remjet backing I will be gobbling it up and I expect the wedding photographers would go nuts.

If you think this emulsion is ever going to ''trickle down'' to c-41 film, I say forget it. There is no way in hell any manufacturer is going to introduce a new tungsten film to the market. Not gonna happen.

But sure, if you can get a reel (how much does it cost anyways?) and use it, why not. IMO tungsten film is to be used for either night exposures or in daylight when the sun is going down and the sky's already blue. As can be seen in the examples you linked to, using tungsten film indoors with tungsten light totally kills the atmosphere.

I have seen partial reels on eBay and Freestyle has a nice loader that I've played with on their shelves. I would love to know how it works out, especially if developing it as C41 gives good results.

Is it generally the same chemistry, but you just have to deal with the remjet?

I think you're right, but we're really not talking about any additional money spent on developing the product. It's just a matter of losing the remjet and packing it into a canister. I would buy a ton of this stuff with no marketing on Kodak's part whatsoever.

Sure, it wouldn't require much additional money on developing the product. I would have cost even less money to just not discontinue the tungsten emulsions they already had like Portra 100T but somehow they (and also Fuji) just decided not to sell tungsten film anymore. And while you might buy a ton of this stuff I'm not sure this would be enough to make it even remotely profitable for Kodak.
Besides, it's not just tungsten film that's dying out, it's also tungsten light.

I was wondering if anyone has played with the vision film yet. I've got a lot of 200t, probably 2000' or so that I don't know what to do with, thinking about just shooting it and throwing it in rodinal. Was curious as to what everyone else has done with this film

No, but according to twinlenslife.com, Vision 500T and Portra 400 are practically the same thing. They do some side by side tests and indeed the results are very similar.

Very interesting results, especially in the higher ISOs WITHOUT any push-processing.

On the subject of Portra 400 being similar (and perhaps by extension Portra 800?), are there any links that demonstrate it's ability to push into 1600 and 3200? How far can 400 and 800 go before requiring a lab push?
