Testing the contrast of the Color Skopar 35 on the M8

Nice little lens. It looks great on a black M8.2 or M9, is small and light. Sharp too, and I decided to do some high contrast shots to test it. My conclusion: It is not as good as a Leica 35, but you get more than 95% of the performance of the Summicron 35 asph at less than 20% of the price. Who can refuse a deal like that? And it has sweet colors.

I've heard good things about this VC35, especially on small sensors like the M8 where its flaws and softness are hidden by the crop factor. Your pictures confirm that.
For a serious contender with the 35 cron asph, I've chosen the new summarit 35, it has the real 3D effect in the way OOF areas are rendered, and the same definition.
I like some voigtlander lenses and own some (50mm) but none of them has the leica fingerprint, nor the contrast or the build quality.
On a small sensor like the M8 or R-D1, a new generation VC lens or older leica generations are more than enough; the M9 however will be a challenge for any lens, except the latest leica generation (even the cheap summarit line is fantastic)

Well, I have to confess that on my M9 the differences to the Summicron 35 asph are quite a bit more pronounced. I bought this lens to make my M8 into a throw-in-the-car-who-cares camera, and the Color-Skopar because of its light weight and smallness is perfectly suited to that. The only real alternative would be a Summaron 35/2.8, I suppose. And the CS is much more flare resistant than that one. Nevertheless, considering the price, I find the lens a good buy even on the M9.

Happy with my Skopar on my M8, what better bargain lens @ 35mm can there be?

Only thing I've found is that the focusing ring is quite stiff, don't know if that is just my model which I bought new from Ffordes or whether that is a general CV build thing on this model.

Yes, love this lens. Have used a summicron in the past and the skopar makes me not feel like I need the upgrade... weird.

My focussing ring feels nicely balanced. But CV is known to have some sample variation.

Mine is great... just the right amount of resistance... I love the short throw of the focusing too... very quick lens to use.
