Ok...so the labels on my bottles of Tetenal c41 developer have fallen off. :bang:

I'm trying to identify the chemicals by smell.
First I have one that smells of bleach/ammonia or something like that. I take that to be the blix.

Now I need to decide which is the developer and which is the stabilizer.
One of the remaining bottles has no real smell at all and the chemical is clear. The other has a mild smell and the chemical looks like it's been a bit colored by the film dyes.

I'm guessing the colored/slightly smelling one is the developer?

Anyone help me out on this?

If nobody else can help you could always put a drop of what you think is the developer on some uncleared leader, see if it turns dark after a couple of minutes?

If they are hard to identify, the simplest way would be to toss some snippet of film leader into either - developer will turn it black, blix will clear it, stab does nothing...

I assume that the chemicals have been mixed from the kit ready for use ?

If so I can't say I've ever sniffed the stuff but -

The blix is a very dark colour - looks a bit like coca-cola.
The stabiliser contains a wetting agent and so is slightly frothy like it has soap in it.
The other one is therefore the developer.

Hope this helps ....
