Free trial was a good suggestion.
My interest is in tethered live-view for manual focusing macro for camera-scan of slides & negatives. Secondarily for framing and positioning the original. Capture One Pro Sony would be an alternative to the free Sony "Remote" application. Either or both are alternatives to framing and focusing using the viewfinder/LCD.
What I learned:
- C1 live view works with the A7ii and A6500 but not with the A6000 or A7. Sony "Remote" seems to be the same, probably a camera body limitation. C1 requires turning off Drop Box to tether.
- C1 live view allows you to focus, and the display is pretty snappy. Same for Sony Remote. Shows the image as on the camera viewfinder/LCD, nicely and cleanly, including Sony's 10x focus magnifier. I think the resolution in tethered live-view may be inferior to the viewfinder/LCD, but I'm not sure.
- Tethered live view does not show the focus peaking highlights.
My net: Capture One Pro Sony might help some in positioning my original slide/neg, but won't help me with focusing. Sony Remote appears equivalent for this purpose (didn't look at other functions of either software).
So, I'll keep on using the viewfinder/LCD for focusing my camera-scans.
