I quote again an American author who wrote. "When Australia was established you got the convicts. When America was established we got the puritans. You got the better deal."
Oh, come on: everybody knows that a country ruled strictly by a strictly-devout government is the best ever. Just look at Afghanistan and Iran, they're doing pretty well*

Yes, I suppose that I sound pretty silly when I admonish others for a lack of intelligence when I live in the state that gave the world George W. Bush....![]()
I don't know what makes so many of people here to seem to really enjoy making fun of George W. Bush.
These are the same people who apart from this, seem to be decent. Is it really intelligent, and sensitive to insult someone? anyone? for any reason?
If someone say that HCB is less intelligent than most people here think he is, I can't imagine the uproar. Yet no one speaks up when a certain group of people are being demeaned.
Maybe we should call this place RFF for the bi-polar.

Then you have photographers like Jock Sturges and others who blatantly publish photographs of underage children not just nude, but sensual nude photos. They have the advantage of a world-wide stage, a reputation as artists, scrupulous adherence to law in all other respects (not a whiff of something naughty happening, parents always present and consenting, etc), and the support of a world-wide community of artists and wealthy patrons.
I would suppose Jock would be well-advised not to go to Texas.
My point (I admit I was being less than completely explanatory,) was that Meatyard didn't make any photos that could be considered sexual in nature (AFAIK) rather the subjects were depicted in seemingly bizarre poses or manners, some would describe many of them as creepy. And the authorities would soon be rewriting the laws to include Satanic or pagan connotations ... Damn, that slope is slippery.

There are a lot of folks, including me, who simply believe that he was one of the worst presidents this country has ever seen and his ass should be sitting in a jail somewhere. He is a war criminal. The list of his transgressions is endless so there is no reason to go into it here. After the damage he has done, making fun of him is the least we can do and he deserves every bit of ridicule and scorn we can pass along his way.

Wrong. The list of transgressions against good governance by the current administration is endless. Barry-O will be written up in the history books as the first President who surpassed the blunderings of Jimmy Carter. By the way, are you going to cite Barry O for his "war crimes" by escalating the fight in Afghanistan?

Agreed. While I'm not prone to make fun of people, the Bush-Cheney administration was characterized by incompetence and authoritarianism. Both committed serious abuses of power and Constitutional violations. They launched an illegal and damaging war in Iraq on known false premises, and failed to prosecute a legal war in Afghanistan.
Sadly, their style and their emotional bombast appeals to many people who are ready to rally around a leader, who don't understand the nature of American government, and for whom patriotism means unquestioned worship of the totems and symbols of democracy, not the reality.

Amen! Anyone who would pick Joe Biden as VP is lacking in judgment in my book. You have to excuse those with Bush Derangement Syndrome, they will be spewing their idiocy for YEARS, unless they get some treatment...

Yeah, how dare they, those idiots. Only right-wing nutjobs can have the privilege, like they did between 2001 and 2008 blaming everything on Clinton. Their Clinton Derangement Syndrome is apt, smart, and holy.

I agree with this. It is only a matter of time before charges of war crimes will be raised against George W. Bush jr. It will then be impossible for him to visit certain European countries in risk of being jailed. A fate he share with Henry Kissinger, among others. Tony Blair will face a similar destiny. They are responsible for a war costing a million Iraqi lives.

Hey look,
Your country is going down the drain. And you can't discuss political matters in a civilized way. Is this a coincidence?

Not going to happen. And BTW, why would Bush want to actually spend money in any of the anti-American countries in the EU anyway?
I like you Olsen, but you crack me up with many of your posts. While I don't agree with you, I hope you and your family have an excellent new year and that all are healthy...

Sure... if "my country" hadn't been around mid-last-century, you'd be speaking Deutsch, Herr Olsen. Verstehen?
