After spending the last six months hiding in the shadows it is time to come out into the light.

I would just like introduce myself, Nick, and thank you all for the invaluable help you have given my wife,Tina, and I in making our decision to purchase a new Leica MP along with a new 35 'cron. It goes well with the 21 Elmarit (pre-asph) that we picked up in mint condition from the supplier when we placed the order.

It arrived yesterday and we are delighted - what a little jewel!

Once again, many thanks, the combined knowledge and experience of people on this forum is astounding.

Regards

Nick

We have made a deal that it is a shared prize at the moment until the finances stretch to a second body and a 50 'cron for me (Nick).

They sure are pretty right out of the box. A Leica will also be pretty when you retire. Congratulations.

The better half was convinced by the Leica reps that the 35 'cron would become her tool of trade but I still fancy a 50. After my 24 year old FM2 passed away we were left in the enviable position of being able to start again with whatever system we fancied..... I shoot digital for work but have wanted an M for 20+ years.... It is worth the wait.

Nick and Tina, isn't that a dinner show with two sittings on Saturdays? Hey, we saw you guys in the shadows, you know, wide latitude of Tri-X and all.:)

Welcome to RFF. I am a sworn true 50 man, but understand that you do need one 35 in a RF kit. Enjoy your camera.

Welcome aboard, and let me suggest a Leica M3 with a Rigid or Collapsible Summicron. It would be a good second body alongside an MP. The cost of a good user condition M3 with the 50 that you fancy is quite reasonable; much less than the MP. It's higher magnification finder is well-suited for a fast-fifty.

Wasn't aware we had many of them...

I've heard it said that people prefer a focal length that corresponds to their age. It's only a matter of time before RFF members give up their 35's and 40's and start hunting for 50's en masse....

So 5 years ago I mainly shot with a 50, and now I mostly use a 35.

Am I regressing or just trying to recapture my lost youth?

I must be a Peter Pan kinda guy: my favorite lenses are the 35 & 28. I like my collapsible 'cron 50 but I only use that one with my M3 (its VF makes you rediscover this focal length).

O Crikey! And here I just got an M2 that has no framelines for 135mm ...
