Having dropped my Ikon and 35 Biogon and 50 C-Sonnar in a bag a couple of months back I finally got around to sending to Zeiss. They have now returned it after 8 working days with the rf aligned, both lenses function checked and the C-Sonnar focus adjusted. Total cost, including return carriage is less than the cost to me of sending it to them insured.

Briliant service.

Dear Mike,

Hey! You'll get the internet a bad name if you start telling positive stories. Everyone knows it's for whingeing and snivelling and complaining that you're being ripped off -- even when you're very happy with an excellent camera and two superb lenses!

Tashi delek,

Hi, Mike. It doesn't surprise me.

Following Zeiss' technical support advice, I sent to Oberkochen my Sonnar 2,8/85 (MM, C/Y mount, bought second hand, no warranty or papers) with lazy blades and they returned it to me repaired for free, without any further questions.

There are a few companies left that still provide excellent service without meandering through a mind-numbing maze known as call centers or paying $30 to even answer a question.

I've mentioned it before, but I've had great experiences on two occasions with Sennheiser. I've had useless, corporate and politically correct replies from eBay, and I've gotten no response from several U.S. distributors of Japanese products.

The idiot dog once ate a medicinal patch (and all of the mail) at some point during the day and then vomited repeatedly in the kitchen. We called a toll-free animal poison center, and the first thing they said was to have your credit card ready for a $60 charge! No thanks -- the dog lived, for now.

Makes the thought of purchasing a Ikon a much more likely thing. Thanks for the experience report. Such service is becoming a rare and noteworthy thing.

I had a good experience when I sent in my ZI for re-alignment after I banged it and it went out.

The camera came back perfect, took around 3 weeks from the UK from posting to receiving back.

The only thing they could improve is to make payment easier. I had to do a SWIFT transfer, which means a special trip to the bank and a £20 charge. Paying by credit card would have been much easier and cheaper, even if they passed on the card charge to me.

Whoa, no kidding, that would be a massive inconvenience for me! Being able to pay by credit card would be a HUGE improvement. Based on your story, I wouldn't consider dealing with them unless there was absolutely no other way. I own one ZM lens, and if it developed a problem, I would talk to the trusted seller Tony Rose. I know he'd take care of me more conveniently.
